ok so here is what i did...

i downloaded the one iso file, its like almost 700mb...

then i mounted the ISO to a CD and burned it...

restarted the computer...

booted off CD...

it opens up the big orange screen...

the little task bar at the bottom loads all the way through...

then it goes into a real fast black screen that has a penguin or something and it says login

then the screen goes black...

then the screen goes dark black like its turning off...

then back to black but not so dark...

then im like WTF?

then i wait a few...

then the cd drive opens and closes real fast

and after that nothing happens :(

suggestions?

im going to try reburning it right now

but if that doesnt do it im stumped...

i noticed there are some like zip files in the CD in the folders... was i suposed to unzip them?

ok maybe reburning the iso at a low speed after checking the MD5SUM matches. Then try again this time while it's loading press 'Esc' & you will be able to see what is going on behind the 'orange' facade - which in turn will help decide what the problem is..

No you do NOT unzip them. You have a Live CD iso and it must be burnt as an iso and nothing else. The live CD unzips the various files "on the fly" meaning it opens them as it needs them and closes them again otherwise all the data contained within them would never fit on the CD.

Do as jaraeez suggests and make sure it is burnt at the lowest speed possible.

Sure it will take longer to burn but it will burn accurately and that is what you need.

Cheers. John.

ok so... i used a different program and burned the cd at a painfully slow 8x and it does the same exact thing...

it runs through the orange screen with the load bar, then it goes into a screen with a penguin for like a second, the screen goes black...

its like its trying to load the gui but it just doesnt work with my video card... :(

my system specs are

x2 opteron 240 cpu's

1gb registered DDR 266

ATI radeon 9800XT

x1 36gb raptor sata

x1 200gb WD ata

x1 300gb maxtor ata

hercules 7.1 sound card

maybe it doesnt like the 9800XT?

its so odd...

i know its working in the backround cause the cd light blinks and if i hit enter and tab at random times it starts thinking again...

If this is the case a text install maybe an option.

I have not done a fresh install for a year however other options such as "noacpi" are available if i recall correctly. Which version of mandriva is the iso?

Have you checked the MD5SUM before burning?
