I have XFree86-4.1.0-17mdk running on my box and when I try to upgrade it to XFree86-4.2.1-6.2mdk, I get these dependency issues:

Why do I want to upgrade, you ask? I just installed the NVidia GeForce4 card and when I try to run HardDrake, the screen goes black and I have to do Ctrl-Alt-F2 and back to Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get my desktop back. I figure it has something to do with the card, since it only started happening since I installed the card and there is no option to select GeForce4 in XFdrake and if I select GeForce3, it reverts back to Generic VGA (or unknown SVGA)...that's the message in the console also, when I run harddrake from the console:

Generic VGA (or unknown SVGA)

The latest NVidia drivers are installed and running.

The display problems happen whether I am loading agpgart or nvidia and I cannot enable FastWrites or SBA with yanc (or get AGP higher than 1x due to my AMD Irongate chipset). See also this thread:

http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=3764

To change the chipset, I actually have to change my MoBo? If so, how hard is it to change a MoBo? Can an amateur do it?

Try choosing GeForce2 instead of 3. 4 chipsets are closer to 2's than 3's.

I was going to try for XFree86-4.3 in 9.0 and threw the idea out the window after seeing much the same list of deps. All I can suggest is to start adding a lot of sites to your urpmi sources/list or start downloading. Either way it's not fun that's for sure. Personally I'd download a little here and there into an MyUpgrade dir til I had everything, then add MyUpgrade to urpmi....better than tying up my 56k modem for a day, which I can't do because I only have one line  . Or better yet....download 9.1 while you sleep with d4x. That's what I did for 9.0...only took a week for all three CD's :P

I think anyone with common sense can change a MoBo.
