VoIP clients

Can anyone recommend a good VoIP client for Mandriva 2007? A friend gave me a selection of numbers and server names with which I should be able to make his phone ring, but it's all far more complicated than I expect it should be.

I failed to urpmi Twinkle (failed dependency) but KPhone runs, at least from the console. But there are dialogs upon dialogs and no explanation of what the multitude of fields mean. I thought I could just type in his address / number and hit the big green "Go" button but apparently it's much more tricky than that. And no error messages except the cryptic ones in the console, and it just sits there apparently doing nothing.

Is there a better way? I checked out this thread and this thread but neither seem really to answer it. Is there no simple, easy-to-use, dial-and-go client out there?

And yes I know about Skype, I use it for PC-to-PC phoning (or at least I did until Mandriva 2007 when apparently the person I'm calling hears themselves in an echoy dalek-voice). But in this case I'd like a way to talk to this VoIP phone.

Hi Neddie,

I've been using Ekiga for a while now, and kinda like it. Easy to set up, it rings on the sound card speakers but uses a voip phone for the conversation. I can create accounts on other networks, call landline numbers, all I need really. What matters is what OS your recipient is on. If it's linux then no problem ekiga can deal with it, if it's windows the I recommend fwd.pulver.com to them and I have an account with pulver and I can call them, they can call me. Video is a bit shaky on this machine. I think the spring is getting weak, you know the one I wind it up with ;) Must update it sometime. Hope you get sorted.
