paul
yes you can I have a local webserver with all 3 mandrake cds on it (not in iso format) then I make a network boot disk .. you can find that on cd1 under /images the boot disk will ask whether you want to do a "nfs", "http" or "ftp" install. give you network details and away you go
CanuckKev
I did both my server at work (the first time, not the next 2 times: Long story) and machine at home this way. I did it as an ftp to my windows server. Worked well, but REALLY slow. I think it was worse than installing Win95 by floppies:) Next time, I'll try it from an NFS..... (Lets hope that is not needed..)
Slagathor
So If I make a 3 or 4gig FAT32 part. on one of my machines and copy the cd's to it, I install with NFS option right?????? Then point it to that machine?????
Guest dahvaio
Yes, you can create the partition but I think you will run into the problem of not being able to access all 3 ISO images. You will be able to give it a name of 1 of the ISO's and then if you install packages that are on the other, it will give you an error. I believe that you can extract the 3 images and then recreate one huge ISO file. This way when you point to the file everything will be in it. If you decide to do an FTP install, just extract all 3 ISO's and then move the RPMS2 and RPMS3 directories. This way you will have RPMS and RPMS2 and RPMS3 directories all within the same sub-directory. Personally, if you have 2 PC's doing an FTP install is the quickest. This is the way I always install it on my Laptop. If you do an FTP install off of a PUB it is going to take a while... Good luck, David
