anti virus

Dear usergroup

I have been using Mandriva 2006 Discovery Beginners for a while now. Sometimes I wonder if I have a virus and I know that this OS has KlamAV but I'm not sure what to do with it. Can I do a scan like other anti virus software? How would I know if I did have a virus?

I have a firewall already on my modem and another that makes me invisible on the net.

I appreciate any comments or advice. Thanks

Doody :P

It's highly unlikely you have a virus, because there are virtually none that exist under Linux. There might be the odd one that was created but it's very difficult to be infected.

Viruses exist under Windows and require constant scanning, etc, for Linux it's just not required yet. I wouldn't worry about it. Here is a link where someone asked the same question:

and more links here done on this board with a search for keywords "anti virus":

Yes you sure can, just open it up and select the 'scan' tab, look through the options, set it up how you want, choose the files/folders you want to scan from the tree, hit scan. You can also just right click and select 'Scan with KlamAV' (rightclick/Actions/Scan with KlamAV)

How would I know if I did have a virus?

It will tell you :)

Also if your intersted check out AVG, its free, and very good

There also other freebies available for Linux, however I have used AVG for a long time under Windows, and have never felt the need to look for another. As soon as I tried it, i ditched my comercial Anti Virus products, and never looked back.
