Do you have any special programs running then accessing that disk. Or could it be due to a heat problem. During the day the aircon is on it that room then in the morning the computer has got too hot, or at least the drive... I have an external USB drive and once in a while i can overheat it and it will turn it self off.. Heat also could be causing the processor to lock up.. I have an old laptop that freezes solid until i do a power down and power up. If i leave it too long with the lid shut but still on running external screen..
