sofasurfer
I want to download a 500mb file(asterisk). This will take at least a couple of nights since I can't tie up the phone line for more than a few hours at a time. How can I stop or pause a download and restart it again later? I'm using wget. uralmasha
quote from man wget: Wget has been designed for robustness over slow or unstable network connections; if a download fails due to a network problem, it will keep retrying until the whole file has been retrieved. If the server supports regetting, it will instruct the server to continue the download from where it left off. The command line switch to continue downloading is -c or --continue. You don't have to specifically "pause" the download. Edited March 4, 2006 by uralmasha
bvc
Wget will continue to run, even if you close the terminal you started it with, so you have to specifically kill wget to get it to stop. killall wget Also be sure you start wget -c from the same dir the download is in everytime or it'll start over, because it needs the log file on the download. scarecrow
You can also use DownloaderX ( d4x ), which is a splendid download manager, and works either from console or a GTK2 GUI.
AussieJohn
D4X is the one I mostly used when I was on dialup. It aways worked like a charm. Since I am now on adsl I use it ocassionally still. A nice piece of work. Cheers. John.
