I'ver seartched the forum, and read a few threads very similar, and tried the advice given in them, but still cannot seem to get it going.

I've ichecked to be sure cupsis installed:

[dave@ dave]$ rpm -qa | grep cups

cups-1.1.21-0.rc1.7mdk

libcups2-1.1.21-0.rc1.7mdk

cups-common-1.1.21-0.rc1.7mdk

cups-drivers-10.1-0.2mdk

But samba confuses me, it is installed, but a very big newbie. when I go to system.config/kde/peripherals/printers, it gives the "connection to cups failed, check that it is running and installed. From the above it is installed, but running? not sure. I did turn off the firewall on the XP system, wasn';t able to ping it before, now I can. Where do Istart? :wall:

thanks

PS, I am also thinking about turning the XP system into a mandrake system. Is it easier to network and file share linux-linux than linux-xp? Because I also have had zero luck getting the 2 networked also.

Installed Swat, asks for a user name and password. Would this be from the XP system? tried my linux user/pass to no avail. remember I am extreme newbie, so there is no "simple" lol. went through the samba setup, but really unsure of what info to input. In print manager, selected add printer/class, then smb shared printer then normal account. Asks for user /pass, but again, not sure what it is looking for, XP user pass? I dont have one i use to loginto XP...If Igo past that, it does show "mshome" under printer, then local host, but under that pdf generator.
