Hi..

i had that problem with windows..so i checked with linux in the following sites: http://www2.montana.edu/desktop/rpc.htm

And i saw that my operating system was displayed as linux/unix..so as per the statement on that site it says my pc is vulnerable to that attack.

Is that true ??

can anyone discuss this..thanks!

I have some more questions:

1) when i go on sites like: "www.findip.biz"..i see that still some private info are display...is there any way of hiding all this with mandriva 2006?

2) How do i ensure that i don't have ports which are vulnerable..etc..

I know this is too much asking..but in windows i have suffered a lot :( so now with linux/mandriva i want to be able to breath..lol

Thanks for all your help and time!

The site says:

If your operating system is listed below, it is critical that you read and follow the instructions
The Operating systems that are listed are Windows 95, NT, XP, 98, 2000, 2003. Not even one line mentions Linux. So forget about it. ;)

When you open the MCC, go to the firewall section, uncheck the "disable firewall" box and you are pretty done. The only thing you might be interested in now is disabling unneeded services [MCC -> services -> system-services], which open up ports on your system, like e.g. NFS. Read the description of each of those services and decide if you want to disable it or not. If you are unsure about the services, use google first (it will come up with a lot of pages where services are explained in detail). If you still dont know if you should disable a service, ask us before disabling it.
