ianw1974
Sure no problems, we'll get there soon hopefully! I'll be away from Friday night onwards, so will be around tomorrow, but not until Sunday or Monday after that, so just in case I go quiet for a bit. Arne
There has been a change to 'ifconfig'. ra0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:50:90:F7:05 inet addr:10.0.0.6 Bcast:10.0.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::211:50ff:fe90:f705/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:9 Memory:ec00000-ec02000 ra0 is the pcmcia card in the notebook which have IP 10.0.0.4 not 10.0.0.6. It's a Belkin Travel router with 3 functions: router, adapter and Access Point trough a switch for the tree functions. It's not a dedicated AP. Any idee/comment on this????? Lastly, here is dmesg for insert the card on a running notebook: ndiswrapper: driver rt2500 (Ralink Technology, Inc.,06/10/2004, 2.02.06.0000) loadedPCI: Enabling device 0000:05:00.0 (0000 -> 0002) ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:05:00.0[A] -> Link [LNKB] -> GSI 9 (level, low) -> IRQ 9 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:05:00.0 to 64 ndiswrapper: using irq 9 wlan0: vendor: 'IEEE 802.11g Wireless Card.' wlan0: ndiswrapper ethernet device 00:11:50:90:f7:05 using driver rt2500, 1814:0201.5.conf wlan0: encryption modes supported: WEP; TKIP with WPA; AES/CCMP with WPA ra0: no IPv6 routers present I must say I am confused about this 'ra0' versus 'wlan0' and the eventual conflict. ianw1974
ra0 is appearing because of the rt2550 being listed in the lsmod. modprobe -r rt2550 should remove it then lsmod again to make sure it's loaded. If another wireless lan driver is loaded, you won't get ndiswrapper to work, so we need to have this unloaded before we even continue with ndiswrapper. Then, after it's removed, modprobe ndiswrapper, and check the ifconfig to see if it appears as wlan0.

ianw1974
Use ifconfig -a (since basic ifconfig doesn't always display stuff). After you did modprobe ndiswrapper, follow the install guide where it says use iwconfig. What does this report after you do this?

ianw1974
I'll have to jump on my laptop when I get home later, and find out how I did the same for mine. Mine was always pulling a Mandriva module, and I did manage to stop it. I'll check it, and post back a bit later. If I don't get chance today, will update Sunday for sure. I'll keep monitoring just in case someone else posts on how to stop it from automatically loading this module.

ianw1974
Sure, can give that a go, is worth a try. I'm just wondering if it'll get redetected after a reboot that's all.

Qchem
Is it possible to turn the hardware detection service off in mcc - I'm not at a mandriva box right now but I thought there was something like this.
Arne
Qchem, I can only find that some parameters can be set in configure module for the Ralink. I did not see a general way to turn off all hardware detection. maybe somebody else have a tip
ianw1974
If you disable HardDrake service, it will stop detecting hardware at bootup. I don't think I did this on mine though, will check and update soon.
