Qchem
Do you have a sata cdrom drive by any chance? If so you may need to use a more up to date version of mandrake to support that.

ianw1974
Check in the Hardware Compatibility list on Mandriva's website for your particular harddrive. You might find it's only supported in LE2005 or higher. It can be found at: http://www.mandriva.com

coverup
i have a SATA hard drive but not cd rom <{POST_SNAPBACK}> MDK 10.1 support for SATA HD was a failure. Your options are 1. Try Mandriva 2005LE (MDK 10.2) or 2006 2. If you wish to stick to 10.1, when the installation process starts, press a key for more options and type in alt1. This will install an older kernel 2.4.x. The computer mmay work but much slower than it should... 3. Try another distro.

coverup
well im only guessing or what ever and theres no error messages that i can see <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you don't have much to lose, install 2005LE or another distro. Otherwise, Boot from the CD in rescue mode (when asked for options, type rescue instead of alt1). Then post here the content of /boot directory (type ls /boot) and the content of /etc/lilo.conf.
