Larsson
Thanks for the help and i tried to reinstall but it still complains about installing the thac NVIDIA drivers at the boot. Which is one suppose to use, the edited thac nvidia or old nvidia drivers for legacy cards. Both fail however. Dont really know that much about the thac but could i download a precompiled nvidia drivers from his homepage or how does it work (aware of the fact that he is a member of the forum). scarecrow
Sorry to say that you are wasting your time. The last nvidia driver version which will work with your GeForce2 is 7174, and your are trying to install a 7667 repack. You can try using the nvidia-legacy packages, which are suitable for your card, BUT: Simply 1. uninstall all nvidia related packages, 2. Get the correct driver from here and flag it as executable, 3. Do as root telinit 3 4. Go to the folder you've stored the nvidia driver and ./NVIDIA*.run Follow the instructions, edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to add "nvidia" instead of "nv" or whatever in the device section and you have a working basic setup. Larsson
no you havent wasted my time, actually i tried installing a legacy driver first, 6629 but failed, tried your linked drivers but those also failed. unable to load kernel module 'nvidia.ko'.This is most likely because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source file. ... You may specify the kernel source path with the --kernel-source-path should also mention that i uninstalled the thac version before but i have gotten this message hundreds of times before so i doubt it will make any diffrence. failed to upload the log since it doesnt accept the extensions (tried changing) however here are some intressting parts: kernel source path : /usr/src/linux... -> Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko': -1 Invalid module format ... nvidia: version magic '2.6.11-13mdk 686 gcc-3.4' should be '2.6.11-6mdk 686 gcc-3.4' nvidia: version magic '2.6.11-13mdk 686 gcc-3.4' should be '2.6.11-6mdk 686 gcc-3.4' nvidia: version magic '2.6.11-13mdk 686 gcc-3.4' should be '2.6.11-6mdk 686 gcc-3.4' some other things -> Cleaning kernel module build directory. executing: 'cd ./usr/src/nv; make clean'... rm -f -f nv.o nv-vm.o os-agp.o os-interface.o os-registry.o nv.o nv-vm.o os- agp.o os-interface.o os-registry.o nvidia.mod.o rm -f -f build-in.o nv-linux.o *.d .*.{cmd,flags} rm -f -f nvidia.{o,ko,mod.{o,c}} nv_compiler.h *~ rm -f -rf .tmp_versions -> Building kernel module: executing: 'cd ./usr/src/nv; make module SYSSRC=/usr/src/linux SYSOUT=/usr/s rc/linux'... scarecrow
Any chances the installscript being right? Please open (as root) Mandrake Control Center/ package installer ( rpmdrake), refresh your repos, go to the "remove software" section, type in "kernel" (without the quotes) and list here all the packages returned... Larsson
How do i change the topic to solved? What is rivafb by the way? Problem: complains about now finding source during boot when trying to install nvidia cause: see below solution: had legacy card so it shouldnt work even if i would have fixed it, i guess. Problem: couldnt find a interface for nvidia Cause: Pretty obviously now that one know it and look back, had version diffrences in kernel version and source version. Kernel -6 source -13. Was always looking to patch my source when it was my kernel that was outdated, at least i hope it was (hope i got the latest). Solution: update the kernel to -13 Edited December 27, 2005 by Larsson
