  1. How do i change the topic to solved? What is rivafb by the way? Problem: complains about now finding source during boot when trying to install nvidia cause: see below solution: had legacy card so it shouldnt work even if i would have fixed it, i guess. Problem: couldnt find a interface for nvidia Cause: Pretty obviously now that one know it and look back, had version diffrences in kernel version and source version. Kernel -6 source -13. Was always looking to patch my source when it was my kernel that was outdated, at least i hope it was (hope i got the latest). Solution: update the kernel to -13

  3. no you havent wasted my time, actually i tried installing a legacy driver first, 6629 but failed, tried your linked drivers but those also failed. should also mention that i uninstalled the thac version before but i have gotten this message hundreds of times before so i doubt it will make any diffrence. failed to upload the log since it doesnt accept the extensions (tried changing) however here are some intressting parts: some other things
  4. Thanks for the help and i tried to reinstall but it still complains about installing the thac NVIDIA drivers at the boot. Which is one suppose to use, the edited thac nvidia or old nvidia drivers for legacy cards. Both fail however. Dont really know that much about the thac but could i download a precompiled nvidia drivers from his homepage or how does it work (aware of the fact that he is a member of the forum).

  7. # urpmi kernel-source already installed # uname -r 2.6.11-6mdk
  8. guessing it is the OS trying to install drivers and when trying to install nvidia driver manually, taken from log and yes i do got 2.6.11-13mdk and my question has been where to get kernel-source 2.6.11-6mdk? I might be way off but there seem to be a problem with kernel-source and as i have understood the drivers need the kernel-source to be able to work / install properly. cant download such kernel-source cause i cant find it and if you now can help me get it, could i then upgrade it into 2.6.11-6mdk or will it work for nvidia as if it was 2.6.11-6mdk? or is this entire problem not the drivers but the missing of openGL libraries or is it maybe both
  9. Oh thought a link had -> but i was misstaken however i am still uncertain how to gain the right kernel - source and what exacly to do with it so i dont damage my system (or put it back in updates).
  10. I am not sure, i am not used with linux system and all the diffrent words they use but i am using the 2.6.11-6mdk as kernel but i only got in my /usr/src/ linux-2.6.11-13mdk (as well as nvidia and some other stuff). Dont really know what to get from the package manager, dont found anything that exacly matched my case (either it was for xbox or something else) however i found kernel-2.6.11-13mdk-1-1mdk. Could i use this somehow or how do i get the right kernel-source? what is the diffrence between symlink and a link? Marry crismas everyone ! :D

  12. Hej again people i have asked you for help a year ago however i ran out of time during the help process now i am back with the same problem but probably with more fact so you could help. I am trying to install an old nvidia driver cause i got a geforce 2 which is no longer supported and as stated by the topic i have mandriva 2005. The problem is i get very low fps and no opengl support, cant run quake3 cause it cant find opengl lib (my guess): Sys_Error: GLimp_Init() - could not load OpenGL subsystem However i canot compile or run the drivers from nvidias site cause it cant find the kernel-source but since last i have looked a little closer and found that mandriva knows i am runninga geforce 2 from nvidia but during boot when changing to information i can see that it complains about not finding kernel-source for 2.6.11-6mdk and i think this is the problem but i dont know where to get it, only later versions from the rpm handler (GUI) except those for xbox or other machines who got it.
  13. Installed them when i follewed a installation tutorial: Had no success with the following: nvidia: version magic '2.6.11-12mdk 686 gcc-3.4' should be '2.6.11-6mdk 686 gcc-3.4' is that really the kernel isnt that some of Nvidias alternativly some other reproduktion that i might have installed in panic attack.
  14. New error message: # modprobe -q agpgart <-- on Linux 2.6, only! isnt mandriva 10.2 3.XXX on kernel or what does the above mean? Want it installed first then i come back to what i have done =)
  15. My log, tryied to add it as an attachment to save room but it was apparently not allowed to add .log. I dont really know what to make out of the errors, fel 1 is = error 1 as i have added into the log. Thanks for all the help i might get and i as i said before, i am a newbie so please give a straightforware answer of what to do, if possible.
  16. I think linux will get more problems at this front unless we could get console manufactures like Playstation to make there console/games work under OpenGL and making it possible and easy to port to Linux. This would be good for the game manufactures because they can easily make games to linux as well even if it is a small market. This could draw users from Windows when they now got a lot and good games that work under linux, windows are currently destroying OpenGL and these games would require OpenGL. Now if sony would be so kind that they made the games for playstation working on linux system too would be awsome but probably nothing they would do cause they need a good copy protection and having a legal agreement with all its games vendor not to sell cheaper Linux versions. But still if they would make OpenGL and easy porting would be very good for us. Sry this post got big and confusing cause i cant take upp all views on this, to lazy for that. Hope at least this will bring some discussions and questions that i might answer later on.
  17. I have a Geforce 2 GTS that i am trying to install. This card is classfied by Nvidia as legacy card, from Nvida: I have not been able to locate any special driver packs for those so i took which i think is the latest driver pack that support my card -> 1.0-6629 However when i try to install them after following the instrucion as good as i could, installing the kernels - > http://www.mandrake.tips.4.free.fr/nvidiainst.html I got a message telling me somewhat close to this (taken from log cause i am to lazy to get the exact words but the meaning is the same) After the process of making a kernel interface i got errors that it failed and that i should check the log. Please help me, and remember than i am a newbie so make detailed description of what i should do. Also i could mention that i got this card working for Suse 9.3 by using Yast so it is not impossible but then i might got the wrong drivers that i try to install. One last thing, could someone tell me what rivafb is and what it does.
