Guest KlausIndi
hello, i can't find my w2k pc in the network; i use Mandriva LE 05 on laptop; i type in Smb4K: smb://ARBEITSGRUPPE/ and see only the SX541-host (the dsl - router i use) and the MYLAP-Samba-Folder on my linux-pc; when i click on SX541 in Smb4K an popup tells me, that "Connection to SX541 failed"; why is it, that i can't see any windows pc? when i installed Mandirva LE 05 the first time, i had no problem to get access; after a renewed installation i have this problems; on the windows pc is no firewall; and as far i'm informed there is either one on the linux pc; i looked up a lot of webbased infosites but are now more confused (including the samba for stupids how to do); ok, thanks a lot for any hint Edited December 21, 2005 by KlausIndi
buccaneer
try opening a terminal # nmblookup -M -S -d1 --<Group> where <group> is the name of the workgroup you have set up on your win2k box or try #smbclient -L <netbios name> -W <group> username=*,password=* this should give you some more meaningful error messages
scarecrow
smb4k is bughouse deluxe, stay away from it. No need having Samba daemon running (but samba/smbclient must be installed)... just open konqueror/krusader/whatever decent KDE filemanager, and type in smb:/2000host (or whatever the windoze machine name is) and you will be able to browse the shared files/folders. SMB is embedded in KDE's VFS (mandy's 2005LE KDE is included), no need for sh**y smb4k crap. I guess your Linux puter, the router and the 2000 machine all share the same workgroup/domain name, right?
