Host name conflicts

So I have domain name localhost and Mandrake keeps complaining that is not a valid name and that if I want to use the tools I need to change the name and readjust my hostname.

I also have past experience that changing the hostname provides me conflicts with Gnome and also apache where localhost = 127.0.0.1 and I wonder if there is safe to just readjust it like that.

Can anyone explain a way to do this without avoiding possible conflict.

I found adding (or editing) a line similar to:

127.0.0.1   localhost   newhostname

in the /etc/hosts file works fine for me. However, this is on gentoo and not Mandriva but hopefully that shouldn't matter.

Hi unfortuantely you didn't answer my question, I never ask how can I change it, but how can I safely change it.

Putting that in hosts have caused problems ini the past for example the apache httpd stop working once I restart.

I went through the apache configuration and solve it even thought it did it with some warnings about having DHCP setup.
