nuts and bolts - ADSL modems

Hello usergroup...

I'm back again! (ha ha!)

I want to purchase an ADSL modem. I've seen one (Netgear DG632 Modem Router - simultaneous ethernet and USB connectivity. Comes with free ethernet cable and USB cable for connecting your first computer).

When I installed Mandriva Limited Edition 2005 and checked my hardware in the connection tools it did show that I had a LAN adapter. etc.

I know it sounds silly but I need to know, how does an ADSL ethernet/modem/router connect? What plugs into the ethernet port (this is the slot that looks like a big phone socket isn't it?) .. and what comes from the phone socket in the wall to what? With the above modem that I'm thinking of buying, it worries me when it says there's a USB cable for connecting to your first computer.

I just want to know 100% what I'm doing before I buy this modem. (PC World are sick of me!)

Thanks for putting up with me guys!

doody (hopeless case)

If your set on one ot those then the DG632 RJ-45 (big telephone connection) should go into one of these:

The Mandriva LE 2005 should be set up to connect to the LAN "DHCP" (automatic)
