is it possible for mandrake to be booted with a floppy?

Yes like Ramfree said. In the MCC under Boot, I think theres an option to create a boot disk, also during the install it give you the option to create one as I recall.

Isn't make a bootdisk one of the options when you boot to the first install CD>press F1>and Enter rescue (rescue mode)? If not, you could do the above and instead of rescue type expert and do and upgrade, OR, do the recue mode with chroot, and mounting your partitions and make another bootdisk from the command line...not fun for a new linux user though.

i don't think it can make a boot disk cuz i tried....n it won't go to my usb floppy drive

Well we'll just have to make it work :D Does your floppy drive work otherwise? what type of floppy drive is it (brand)? Have you tried using harddrake to configure the device. Is it listed in you're /etc/fstab/color] file?

This is just a guess but it may be that mkbootdisk has not been configured by Mandrake to recognize a USB drive. If this is the case, then it may be that you can't make one as part of the install process as well since I suspect the same module is used there. Unless you have trashed your install in some other way, do not reinstall just to get a floppy. If you cannot boot into Mandrake, then that is a separate question from creating a boot disk.

To be sure about this, you might try posting this message to the newsgroup alt.os.linux.mandrake or join the newbie mailing list here: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/flists.php3 .

If you bought a boxed set, you must first register here: http://www.mandrakesoft.com/support/register and then you can hope you can get an answer from here: http://www.mandrakeexpert.com/index1.php .

You may need to jump through some more hoops before you can post your question but my personal bias is that this is the last place I would ask a question.

If it turns out that my guess is right then you can submit a report to bugzilla here: https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/ after you check the list to see if it has been posted previously.
