Guest Sisko429
I have a Samsung-TS-H552B DVD-Writer. Last week I noticed that the installed firmware is very old compared to the latest release by Samsung. My firmware is named "TS03". Over the last month they released many further versions. Now they up to "TS10". On the Samsung-Homepage you can download a little tool to install the latest firmware. You can start this tool with wine, but nothing happens. Firmware-Version is still "TS03". Is there another way to install it under Linux?? My distro is Mandriva 10.2. Thanx!
scarecrow
I believe that you have to flash using a WinPE CD... wine won't do, and I would hesitate to do it even via VMWare.
daniewicz
Use a boot disk to perform the firmware upgrade. I would not attempt to upgrade from within any OS.

theYinYeti
Maybe a Freedos boot disk
scarecrow
Maybe a Freedos boot disk <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately enough the flashers are 32-bit executables with GUI, and there isn't a usable way to extract the .bin file from them- let aside the inexistance of a 16-bit DOS flashing utility. Guest Sisko429
Thanks for your reply. Searched the www for a while and found a program called "Binflash". But it only works with NEC- or NEC-compatible DVD-Writers. My reason for the upgrade is a problem with DVD+R DL discs. Every other format(CD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R s.o.) works fine under K3b and in the command-line. Burning a DL disc successfully is a lottery. Sometimes it works, sometimes you can throw the disc in the trash. It's truly random. My hope is a new firmware.
