marcus1060
Does mandrive support the new dual core processors? Because I just bought an Intel Pentium D, which is dual core. And I just wanna know. Thanks.
coverup
support for dual core processors should be built in to the smp kernel.
marcus1060
Ummmmm. Ok. What does that mean? And when will that be about? Thanks.
scarecrow
SMP enabled kernels are present in Mandy's "main" repository. Current 2005LE version is kernel-smp-2.6.11.6mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm, and current Cooker version is kernel-smp-2.6.11.10mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm Just set your URPMI repositories properly (say from easyurpmi.zarb.org), and then "urpmi kernel-smp". You have to enable the kernel at your bootloader after that (use mcc for simplicity). SMP kernels should be used with caution, as they create some annoying side-effects with a few apps (e.g. a serious memory leak with Vmware workstation). How can power management features such as suspend to disk work then? Edited June 25, 2005 by coverup
iphitus
cpufreq is processor throttling, suspend to disk is independent and has nothing whatsoever to do with cpufreq.
scarecrow
cpufreq is a laptop exlusive feature, and since Centrinos and portable Athlons are not dualcore (yet), this shouldn't be a great miss... And yes, suspend features are independent to cpu throttling. Edited June 25, 2005 by scarecrow
bsyuni
Mandriva 2005 works with intel D chips without any tune up. It detect by itself.
