kompact
In M$ I am used to "My Network Places" I cant seem to find anything in Mandriva 10.1 that will allow me to browse my local network. Is there such a thing? Thx!
aioshin
if you've installed LinNeighborhood, that would do similar to mynetwork place, also, you can browse your windows pc using your konqueror ( if u'r using kde), just open konqueror, then at the location | type : smb://<ip-of-winbox-u-wish-to-connect> then enter, if your trying win2k/xp, it will prompt you to supply a username and password, used the account on your windows box. if you're trying to browse a linux machine from a network on a linux machine also, you can also use konqueror and type : sftp://<ip-of-that-linux-box> then you can type the username and password of the account you have on that linux box on you network. it will open the home directory of the user u'r using. hope that helps you a little :) edit: - if you're using linneighborhood and trying to browse another linux box, make sure that you have samba on that box, as with browsing using konqueror by sftp, make sure that an sftp server is running on that box you wish to browse. if you only trying to browse windows box in your lan from your linux box, Samba server doesnot need to be running, but if you want to access and share your linux files and access it from your windows box, a samba server should run on it. devries
Just use konqueror. Much easier. Open konqueror, hit F9 and click on the services tab. Than choose lan browser (or choose go to from the main menu in konq and choose lan browser) :)
Qchem
There's a software installation/removal tool in mcc (Mandrake Control Centre). If that tool can't find the package you'll need to configure urpmi - follow the easy-urmpi link at the top of this screen.
