ExoBot
As the title says, after I installed the new version of amaroK, my soundcard isn't working. Any media program that tries to use it either hangs/crashes/ gives an error. Here's what Harddrake said about it: Identification Vendor: ESS Technology Description: ES1978 Maestro 2E Media class: MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO Connection Bus: PCI Bus PCI #: 0 PCI device #: 8 PCI function #: 0 Vendor ID: 4701 Device ID: 6520 Sub vendor ID: 4136 Sub device ID: 158 Driver Module: maestro Alternative drivers: snd-es1968 It has two drivers, one callled maestro - one called snd-es-1968, neither of them help anthing at all. Anyone got any ideas, I'd quite like to listen to music again :P - thanks.
ExoBot
Nobody has any ideas? IF there's anything I can do to provide more information I'd be happy to help, if someone could help me - I'd be really appreciative! Thanks.
Darkelve
What do your programs do after you close amaroK?
ExoBot
Sorry for long reply, I was away this week. Actually, I removed amaroK after it did this in the vain hope that would solve it. With xmms, after loading a track and clicking play - the program hangs, and I can't close it, at least nothing in the window responds to clicks and neither does right click -> close on taskbar. It just... hangs... other programs work fine, I'm posting whilst it's hanging right now.
Darkelve
Try choosing other Output Plugins in Xmms... from the XMMS menu, choose 'Options -> Preferences'. Then below there is a box saying 'Output Plugin'. Try a few different ones like 'Arts' , 'Alsa' and 'OSS'... and see if that makes a difference when you play a song. ExoBot
There is only the OSS one, which is the one currently trying to be used.
polemicz
try alsa
Darkelve
There is only the OSS one, which is the one currently trying to be used. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Click on the arrow to the right for a drop-down list. You might try alsa first, like polemicz suggests.
ExoBot
Like I said ealier, there is only one in the list - in fact, when I click the drop down menu - there is nothing there. Look: Before click on down arrow: When Clicking on down arrow:

ExoBot
Installed xmms-alsa, now I get: Any ideas?
Darkelve
Yes: open a terminal/console (e.g. KDE's "Konsole") and type: alsaconf and follow instructions. Then try to select it (Alsa) again in XMMS.
ExoBot
Followed that, I get the same message as above again. Edit: Crazy, gaim just dinged at me - kaffeine plays music fine, but XMMS still give me that message... what?
