Frederick 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 Hi everybody, I have put together a livecd for chemsitry and I have timed different programs. As expected the livecd is much slower running from the cdrom, but as usual, it depends. On a PIV 3.2GHz, 512MB, 52xCDROM, the livecd is most of the time faster than from the harddrive on a PIII 850MHz, 128MB, 24xCDROM. Anyway, more in the pdf file. Cheers. Steve Scrimpshire 0 Report post Posted February 20, 2005 Excellent work. It would be great if you would also post this along with a brief summary/review on http://geektyme.org Thanks for the benchmarks.
Frederick 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Steve, I am in the process of writing an article about my livecd that will include why I chose Mandrake, why I chose the packages I have included and also how I went about it. I will also talk about the different steps involved in creating a livecd. My laptop crashed (sad, but at least it gave me a good excuse to buy a new one :D ) and I don't know if I had the file on the hard drive or not. If that was the case, I might well start a new article. Anyway, bottom line is, it will take time. It is highly unlikely that it will be finished before may or even june, but it will be done. Cheers. P.S. I registered on geektyme, so I will be posting this article there.
