Guest danafoo
Has anyone gotten this card to work? If you did, can you let me now know how? When I insert the card, I get a green "Act" light. cardctl status (returns) Socket 0: 5V 16-bit PC Card function 0: [ready] cardctl ident (returns) output: Socket 0: product into: "D-link", "DWL-650 Wireless PC Card RevP", "ISL37101P-10", "A3" manfid: 0x000b, 0x7110 function: 6 (network) But I am unsure as to what to do next. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks! Oh, this is on a Presario 900US. I'm thinking this is good, since mandrake 10.0 didn't even recognize the card at all. I'm wondering if I need to put something in /etc/pcmcia/network.opts. Correct? if so, what?
devries
According to google you need madwifi. http://www.mattfoster.clara.co.uk/madwifi-faq.htm
Guest danafoo
Thanks, I will try this. Unfortunately searching on the internet I found a sight saying that my version of the card, version P, is not supported. But I'll give this madwifi a go and see if I can get results. Thanks for your help.
durvish
I use this card with ndiswrapper and I get great performance.
Guest danafoo
Did you use the NETPRISM.INF file off of the CD that came with the card? I tried using it and when I inserted the card and ran ndiswrapper -l: I got netprism hardware NOT present. I used ndiswrapper 0.9 on Mandrake 10.1. durvish
first things first did you have your kernel source installed when you installed ndiswrapper also did you uninstall the version of ndiswrapper that mandrake installs by default when you install your os then are you using the latest ndiswrapper from sourceforge also on your cd you should have a driver along with the .INF file --- you need to have both Edited December 22, 2004 by durvish
Guest danafoo
I do have the kernel source installed. /usr/src/linux I uninstalled the original ndiswrapper 0.4. urpme ndiswrapper and then tried to build it from source from sourceforge. However, oddly enough even after creating a symbolic link from /usr/src/linux to /lib/modules/{kernel-version}/build - I kept getting an error saying that make couldn't find the kernel sources. However, when I go to /usr/src/linux, it's there. I thought about editing the makefile, but said forget it. I then issued urpmi ndiswrapper , just to see... and Mandrake istalled ndiswrapper 0.9 not 0.12 and I used that to install the drivers off of the CD, but no go. ndiswrapper -i netprism.inf and it seemed to install fine. So maybe I'll have to give the latest ndiswrapper a try and figure out exactly why it can't find the kernel sources, despite having created the link. Could it be that this is a default kernel and I have never run 'make menuconfig' or built a custom kernel? Thanks for all your help.
durvish
no I am using the default kernel also

Guest danafoo
Hello Again! iwconfig reports no wireless extensions on lo, eth0 and sit0. after installing the drivers, I ran ndiswrapper -m (to create alias directive) and added 'ndiswrapper' to /etc/modprobe.preload, and and then placed the card in the slot and rebooted. Dmesg shows this: ndiswrapper version 0.8 loaded ndiswrapper: Alignment mismatch: secion: 0x1000, file: 0x200 Unable to prepare driver any thoughts? Thanks for all your help! I tried doing the above and it still wouldn't work. So I gave up, adn returned the card and picked up a Netgear WG511. Plugged it in, harddrake recognized the card and proceeded to configure it. The only hiccup there was that it needed to upload Prism54 firmware to get the card started. I installed the firmware via rpm, and when I restarted the network, up came wireless! I'm so happy. I've been dealing with this for almost a week! Oh happy day! Merry Christmas! -Danafoo
