Guest Andy
Edited by Darkelve: no apologies needed ;) Problem is in a kernel 2.6.8.1-12mdk (Mandrake 10.1). A HP 1000 work correctly with a kernel 2.6.3-7mdk (Mandrake 10). I understood that after read next messages: http://www.linuxprinting.org/forums.cgi?gr...al;article=6255 http://www.linuxprinting.org/forums.cgi?gr...al;article=6305 Therefore, I back to use the kernel 2.6.3. When I am loading system with the kernel 2.6.3 my printer is recognized by Mandrake 10.1 successfully and the HP 1000 print jobs from prinetr`s buffer (if it has jobs, of course)! But I can not logon: I write my login and password in a Desktop Manager, push 'Enter' and it load nothing! I tryed use another the Desktop Manager (MdkKDM, KDM, XDM), users, but it changed nothing. Now if I want print documents I load Mandrake 10.1 with the kernel 2.6.3. The printer is recognized. Wnen I see the Desktop Manager window I push Restart and load Mandrake 10.1 with the kernel 2.6.8. After all, I can print. Certain, it is not comfortable way. I can not fix problem logon with the kernel 2.6.3. Maybe anybody know solve this bug. Sincerely your, Andy. Dustpuppy
I don't know how to solve this, but a workaround might be to install using the KDE configuration ("configure your desktop > peripherals") rather than MCC. This is how I installed a HP on my parent's computer that wasn't playing ball.

I guess this trouble in "udev" (in Mandrake 10.0 was "devfs") and a kernel boot parameter. So, you need: 1. Service "udev" must be stoped always (You can do it, for example, using the Control Center). 2. Write an additional parameter in an item of boot-menu (as in Mandrake 10.0) - now I do not remember exactly. May be "mount=devfsd". I write exactly in next time. My printer (HP LaserJet 1000) work nice for last two months! Thanks alot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi I just started "playing" with linux... I had the the same problem with my HP Laserjet 1012 (Must be the same problem with all the Laserjet1000) on Mandrake 10.1 I just solved it !!!!!!!!!!!!! I simply changed the connection to another USB port and it worked And just to see I plugged it back to the original connection and it didn't work And my USB doesn't have any problem because it worked fine with MKE 10.1 x86_64 (I had problems so I went on the 32bit version) and on WinXP So try to just change USB port:D And you also have to reboot or it won't print anything until you do.
