Artificial Intelligence
Well I had no sound while playing CDs in the Cd-rom and found out that there was no analog connection from my CD-rom and I thought okay it's easy done, but to my big surprise there was no place on my Soundcard or motherboard to plug in the analog from the CD-rom :o :o :o 1. Is there a plugin to xmms that makes it run through digital? 2. I got another option, I have an old Soundblaster 16 I could use for the purpose. Is there a giude how to setup 2 soundcards on Mandrake 10? And also how to setup the diffrent programs to choose which soundcard they should use. .:=The AI Dude=:. devries
This is about xmms? Do you use KDE and arts? (or if you use Gnome I think it's called esd plugin) Solution: install the arts plugin for xmms (it's in PLF) and change the output to use the plugin (rightclick, settings, output) Good luck. Artificial Intelligence
WOOT!!!!! Thank you very much, dev :) And thanks for the links phunni, I'm gonna use 2 soundcards anyway :), old dosgames on dosbox, it's always useful with an old soundcard to handle old games :)
adamw
it's also worth noting that Totem does digital output by default. I don't know which, if any, KDE-native players do the same thing. I haven't used XMMS for a while, it's just so ugly :). I use Totem and Rhythmbox now... adamw
oh, and I see you use mplayer. you can get the same effect from that, too - do mplayer cdda:// and you'll get digital playback of the CD in the default optical device. there's also a rather neat option you can use to force it only to spin the drive up to 4x, so it doesn't make that nasty racket some drives make when they spin up to full speed, which isn't needed just to play an audio CD...can't remember what that is, have a look in the man page and you'll find it. chris:b
For kde: kaffeine No need for a cable, no need to change any settings. - And of course: all audio formats, and video: vcd, svcd, dvd, mpg, avi and more... streaming media, embedded in konqueror, record button to save the media stream
adamw
thanks anna. that's the kde libxine front end, right? totem is the same thing, for gnome. Edited September 29, 2004 by adamw
