QzarBaron
I was looking around for Window Managers when I came across this. Has anyone tried this? What are your thoughts on it?
bvc
 It's old....but still very good. The "The Return of the Show Off Your Desktop" thread has some recent screenies. For what it can do, it is a very lightweight wm, with very cool features/eyecandy_stuff/effects/sounds. I used it straight for about 8 months over 2 years ago. E, and its creator (The Rasterman) was sorta a legend in their day.....ahead of their time. So, the much anticipated next version has been in devel for what seems like forever, and is way overdue, but Rasterman is a perfectionist so there's no telling when the DE/E-17 will be available. I stopped waiting....it 'may' never happen. Check out Eterm.....it's terminal! There's a recent thread about it as well. urpmi Eterm

arctic
What are your thoughts on it? hmm.. at first i was interested in it, but soon, i got annoyed and began to hate it. even if its developer might be a perfectionist, it never worked the way i wanted, being very unstable, crashing on a regular basis. also, the themes available for enlightenment are ugly imho, although there are some who love this desktop. i had it for 9 months on my boxes and i saw my productivity going down due to the constant problems i had with enlightemnemt. on suse, mandrake and redhat. now i finally layed enlightenment into my de-tomb. imho, xfce4 is much better than elightenment with respect to lightweight desktops.... but this is only my opinion. :) to all those who love enlightenment: just ignore my post. :D Edited September 3, 2004 by arctic
Guest Danny_G
 E, and its creator (The Rasterman) was sorta a legend in their day.....ahead of their time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, very ahead... Oldie but goodie :) my first X in Linux (Peanut 8.3) See more E screenshots here http://dgarciao.tripod.com.pe/mipc.html
bvc
.....being very unstable, crashing on a regular basis. also, the themes available for enlightenment are ugly imho <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's known as one of the most stable wm's. You got some bad stuff (rpms).....where'd you get it? Yes, the themes are ugly, but remember almost all were made 4 years ago. What did kde look like 4 yerars ago? Talk about ugly :P What did gnome look like? What did win look like? E, was the most beautiful thing linux or any OS had known at the time. The reason themes stopped when the E craz stopped is the same reason I never themed it and stopped using it. No SOPS (Standard Operating ProcedureS).....standards are a wonderful thing. With E being very difficult to theme and ppl putting whatever, whereever, I tired quickly. I don't want titlebar buttons on the left in the order of; Min, Close and on the right Max that's stupid. So you'd have beautiful artwork with a horid design and as a n00b be expected to be a coder to be able to change it. Next wm, please. :D Edited September 3, 2004 by bvc
arctic
It's known as one of the most stable wm's. You got some bad stuff (rpms).....where'd you get it? from official redhat site, from official suse site, from my bought mandrake-cds and once compiled it from sources... four times bad luck? that would be funny and something for the annals. What did kde look like 4 yerars ago? spiedra
It looks awsome, even now, but I just couldn't get into it. Found it too awkward to use. Edited September 4, 2004 by spiedra
