cmus
Hi everyone, First let me say these forums are incredibly valuable. I am amazed at how much time people spend helping other folks with their problems. I am a complete newbie having just installed Mandrake 10 (my first foray into Linux) last week. This is my first post to this group, so I apologize if I am not following proper procedures. Now my problem. I have been trying to get my wireless LAN to function and have been having no luck. The hardware I am using is: Dell Inspiron 8100 Laptop Linksys Instant Wireless 802.11b Ver. 3 So far I have done the following (and believe me I take great pride in getting the following steps to finally work since I had been using nothing but Windows for the last 10 years): Successfully compiled and built my new kernel (2.6.3-15mdk) Installed the PCMCIA package (pcmcia-cs-3.2.8) Installed the wireless tools package (wireless-tools.26) All the installs have finally worked without any errors reported and I have followed the instructions on the included readme files as closely as possible. When I install the card, the 2 green lights on the card are lit and steady. I don't hear any beeps or get notified of any new hardware or anything. When I follow LiquidZoo's instructions from LT-01 and type "/sbin/cardctl ident" I get the following output: Socket 0: no product info available Socket 1: no product info available There must be some configuration I have missed somewhere that is prohibiting my card from being recognized. Please help me. Thanks in advance, cmus
Steve Scrimpshire
Try this. Edit your /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia, as root, to look like this: PCMCIA=yes PCIC=i82365 PCIC_OPTS=do_scan=1 CORE_OPTS= CARDMGR_OPTS=-f Reboot and then do the cardctl ident and continue with the rest of the FAQ. If you get no further, try: cardctl insert cardctl ident If that does not work, as root, in a console, type: dump_cis and hit enter. Post here the output. Steve Scrimpshire
Do you have acpi=on in your append line in /etc/lilo.conf? If not, try changing it to that, save the file, run lilo -v and reboot.
cmus
Yeeeeee-Hawwwwwwww I am sending this post from my wireless connection!!!!! Just for everyone's info, I ended up having to reinstall Mandrake. I must have botched something up somewhere along the road while playing with all the configurations. Steve, thanks for your input. Linux and Linux users are the best!!!
