Hi there everyone!

This is my first time posting here, and I hope that someone can help me out..

I've installed the NVIDIA drivers before, and have never had any major problems.

I've also used them under my current kernel (2.6.3-15) and although I had a few small issues, everything worked fine.

Now i'm trying to install the new nvidia drivers that were released on aug 5th 2004, and I can't seem to get anywhere with it. I've made sure that the source for my kernel is installed but i'm getting no where... it also says that rivafb is installed, but i've done lsmod|grep rivafb and searched in the /etc/modules.conf and /etc/modules and there's nothing about rivafb there...

I'm running mandrake 10..

can anyone help? here's a clip from my nvidia-install.log

The make mrproper instruction didn't work for me. If you do it, the next time you run the nvidia installer, it will fail claiming that you do not have your source installed. I got around this problem by extracting the installers files (run the installed with the --extract-only option), then running make install from within the directory created.

If you have already run make mrproper, you'll have to recreate the .config file in /usr/src/linux directory and run through the make xconfig (or config of your choice) before making the nvidia drivers. Be warned, nvidia's script does a lot of compiling.

jlarter, I had the same problem too but i just didnt bother and stuck with the old drivers, I just thought i had done something wrong... Then i upgraded to MDK 10.1 beta1 and the driver installed fine in the new kernel 2.6.8-0.rc2.2mdk, so I guess you only get the error when installing over a kernel which had a previous version of the driver already installed, but dont know this for sure... anyway I just wanna ask you to please post whatever you do to make it work so we all know.

Thanks and good luck.

I had the same problems. It's the kernel version if I'm correct.

I used 2.6.7 before, ran fine with the new driver. While the old one didn't work anymore. Then I switched back to 2.6.3, because 2.6.7 was just doing weird things. And there the new drivers didn't work anymore aswell. While the old ones ran perfectly.

So I just suppose you need the newest drivers for the new kernels. While the older version of NVIDIA still work with the older ones. So yeah ;)
