phunni
If you install Mandrake, you will be able to install all the software that you want. Each of those products has a home page some of them are: Apache - jakarta.apache.org MySQL - www.mysql.org
Cannonfodder
Another good tool to have handy is webmin. Install that and you can manage your computer via browser. There are modules for apache, mysql, perl, whatchacallit :)
Guest arise
Peo, RTFM (as some pointed u to do) doesn't help sometimes, i know....if u tell me more about what u want to do, i'll try to kick-start you :P So describe what exactly you want to do with the server. My first impression is that u want to set up a PHP forum ;) Where is the server located? U intend to have FTP access? SSH? etc...
fuzzylizard
For installation go here: http://www.apachetoolbox.com/ It is the easiest install that I have ever found. It will install Apache/PHP/MySQL/whatever else you need in one simply install script. For information on what to do next go here: www.devshed.com www.sitepoint.com The two sites above also have tutorials on installing a web server if you want to do it yourself. But the first link really is the easiest way.
Guest Peo
Thanks a lot. I just had a quick look but DevShed seems really helpful. That's what I was looking for. Arise: I just want to learn to configure a webserver. :) Thanks for your help. I usually DO RTFM before asking, what I was looking for was a comprehensive starting point like DevShed.
