Installing Gentoo the easy way

Recommended Posts

I had it installed last night for a bit. Couple of things didn't work, for me anways.

One: I could not "su" to root or do any "gui" system changes like add a user because it said that the roots password was wrong. Now if I logged out and then logged in as root at the gdm, it would be fine and I could do things as root. The password was accepted. Not sure what I did wrong there.

Two: I couldn't get to the net. I set it up like I usually would, or at least I thought I had everything the right way, but still couldn't get to the net. Again using the "networking gui" to setup it up was impossible unless I logged out and then logged in as root.

I had it installed on the wifes machine, but removed it and installed Mandrake. ( I need to learn Mandrake better anyways ) I am thinking of installing on my gaming machine and playing around with it there. See what I did wrong during the install maybe too. From what I seen and had running it seems like a nice distro. I know alot of people trying making a Debian system out of Knoppix and most it the times it fails bad, or at least thats what I read. Hopefully this "cheaters, quickie" version of Gentoo works better.
