prisoner1572
Thwice, when I was using linux, I heard sets of three beeps. After a few minutes, the computer just turned off as if I had hit the power button. What is wrong? i get these same beeps in WinXP but it does not shutoff. bvc
sounds like you got a hardware problem! Could just be a setting in the bios that needs changed but.....has the pc always done this or is this a new problem? Sounds like a watchdog warning and shutdown to me, just from what you have described. I had that on my old pc with beta/crap kernel watchdog support on an intel i810 chipset. If you have the kernel-source installed, in a terminal do grep -ir "watchdog" /usr/src/linux/Documentation/* for info, or google.
prisoner1572
the beeps have been occuring for a few months. I bought the computer last fall. The shutdown thing is even newer than the beeps.
Ixthusdan
Open it up and clean your fan/heat sink assembly on the cpu. It's no doubt covered with dust.
