chyap
I'm having problems updating 10.0 CE. I've been trying for weeks but still fail. Hope somebody can help me out. I can connect and download from the ftp site with my browser but when I try to use urpmi to update, I get a "Connect failed error". Below is the output from my console: [root@fujitsuu-4w4qm8 chyap]# urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz added medium plf retrieving source hdlist (or synthesis) of "plf"... ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/10.0/hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Connect failed ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/1...hesis.hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Connect failed ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/b...hesis.hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/s...hesis.hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/b...esis.hdlist1.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/b...esis.hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/s...esis.hdlist1.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/s...esis.hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/1...esis.hdlist1.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/1...esis.hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/10.0/hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Connect failed ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/base/hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/hdlist.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/b...base/hdlist1.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/b...base/hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (9) Couldn't cd to base ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/hdlist1.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/1...10.0/hdlist1.cz ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/1...10.0/hdlist2.cz ...retrieving failed: curl: (7) Given file does not exist retrieval of source hdlist (or synthesis) failed no hdlist file found for medium "plf" examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.plf.cz] problem reading synthesis file of medium "plf" unable to update medium "plf" Thank you. bvc
Welcome to the board! seems the hdlist aren't updated with the pkgs/mirror/timestamps/I d/k ... or something. I had the same prob here ftp://carroll.aset.psu.edu/pub/.mirrors/2.../i586/Mandrake/ See my post here for one that works http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...13258&st=40&hl= Edited April 16, 2004 by bvc
linXbox4you
Since the directory does actually exist on the server I would suspect that it is too busy to connect to you. sometimes they will not return a message about too many connections. I would try another mirror if I were you.
liquidzoo
Don't know if this makes a difference or not, but the correct urpmi command would be: # urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.samizdat.net/pub/plf/mandrake/10.0/i586/ with ../hdlist.cz You had the folder incorrect in your command. If that one doesn't work, you can always try a different mirror: # urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/unix/linux/plf/mandrake/10.0/i586/ with ../hdlist.cz
bvc
If that one doesn't work, you can always try a different mirror: # urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/unix/linux/plf/mandrake/10.0/i586/ with ../hdlist.cz That was my fav mirror....still not working for me ....I can't find a plf that works for 10 I get the 'curl failed' exit code 9 and 0 crap Edited April 16, 2004 by bvc
chyap
LiquidZoo, Tried both your commands but still got errors. I think it might the mirrors' fault. By the way I got the original command from http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php
liquidzoo
Still is my favorite cooker mirror...if only they worked. The cooker plf sources work just fine though. I remember anon saying a while back that the boards plf mirror is up to date for 10.0. Maybe he can confirm this when he comes online later. It certainly looks like it's up to date. If it is true, here is the urpmi address: urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://mandrake-forum.org/pub/PLF/mandrake/10.0/i586/ with ../hdlist.cz
chyap
No go my friend. I think this updating issue is going to drive off a lot of new users. bvc
uh hu! still no go LZ. Same errors here as well. It'll eventually be worked out. But who wants to install via commandline til then? Not I...but chyap, so it's just plf you need? Edited April 16, 2004 by bvc
chyap
I'm new..... so actually I don't know what's a plf... :P I'm just following the commands from easyurpmi...
liquidzoo
plf has stuff that can't be included in the release because of licensing issues. This includes, but is not limited to, mp3 encoders (I think), dvd stuff (menu plugins, player plugins, etc)... I know I've gotten this error before when I can physically see the file if I log in to the ftp server with gftp or via a web browser (all 3 of the above mirrors are like this). I would honestly keep trying other mirrors to see if you can get one that works. If not, you may have to wait a few days and try again. Like libdvdcss so you can watch encrypted dvd's Do you have normal sources? ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man...6/Mandrake/RPMS ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man....0/contrib/RPMS Do they work? Mine do, just not plf. Edited April 16, 2004 by bvc

Guest anon
I just ran a check on the PLF files as I'm one of their main mirrors. All is working OK. Try using the command below. BTW, if you use PLF you should also add the Contrib as well to your sources. urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://mandrake-forum.org/pub/PLF/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz added medium plf examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.main.cz] computing md5sum of existing source hdlist (or synthesis) retrieving source hdlist (or synthesis) of "plf"... ftp://mandrake-forum.org/pub/PLF/mandrake/10.0/hdlist.cz found probed hdlist (or synthesis) as hdlist.cz ...retrieving done examining hdlist file [/var/cache/urpmi/partial/hdlist.plf.cz] writing list file for medium "plf" examining pubkey file of "plf"... built hdlist synthesis file for medium "plf" found 0 headers in cache removing 0 obsolete headers in cache write config file [/etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg] [root@localhost me]#
