The upgrade option doesn't seem to work very well for some people. If you have a /home partition, I would do a fresh install, reformat all partitions except for the /home partition that way your settings, preferences, and some of your files would be saved. I've always done my upgrades this way and works very well, plus it's a good way to clean some things up.

I am running Mandrake Linux 9.2 Downloaded Edition now.

Actually there are some problems that must be fixed. This is a simple issue if you have access to sufficiently fast network since you will have to install a certain number of bug fixes... (the updates).

Remember the problems with LG drives...

Good luck! ;)

You can also use easyurpmi on urpmi.org :

1. you remove you 9.2 media using urpmi.removemedia (man urpmi.removemedia)

2. you add the mdk 10 Official Edition media provided by easy urpmi (or the ones on the mdk Official Edition CD)

3. urpmi urpmi (will update the urpmi tool)

4. urpmi --auto-select (will update you to 10.0 Official)

I think it's less dangerous than trying the upgrade version booting from the CD. You keep more control.

It is very strange you cannot use USB key. I am running Mandrake 9.2 on my laptop and there are no problems... Did you install a package named hotplug?

When you insert an USB key, a new line is automatically added to your /etc/fstab. Then you should type

mount /mnt/removable

or

mount /dev/sda1

In the folder /mnt/removable you shold find the data on the USB key...

Bye!

I have used Mandy since 7.2 and must say that 10 CE is by far the "best out of the blocks". I would have to attribute it to the new 2.6 kernel though. I have been updating with Cooker and all is well to this point. I am now using the 2.6.3-7 kernel and it getting along extremely well with my ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Mobo ;-)
