OrangeRibbon
Hello let me start out by saying I am a complete newbie to Linux. I wanted an alternitive to Windows and I heard that Mandrake was very idiot safe, and I had a second HD Laying around from an old PC. I am having 2 problems so far. My GForce onboard sound card is not working, and the Drivers from NDivia.com are not working for me. I am using Mandake 10.0 I have an E-machine T2778 with an AMD Athalon 2700+ and a NforceĀ® on board sound card. I can not get the sound card to work at all. If there is any information I am missing here please let me know. Thank you for any help.
Ixthusdan
Do you have the nforce chipset as well? That is the first hurdle. Get the chipset working properly, and then the video and audio chips will then run properly. Get all of the drivers from Nvidia's sight, and install the chipset first. OrangeRibbon
My Friend said I need the 64bit flavor for Mandrake for the 64bit drivers to work (oppsy) so I have to pic up the 32bit drivers (again DUHH on my part)

OrangeRibbon
You could be right (I am not a hardware person, I can install things, but that is my limit) anyone know where on the NDivia site to get 32bit drivers?
bigjohn
Surely you just need to go to nvidia.com and follow the links for linux and freeBSD drivers? Ā regards Ā John
Ixthusdan
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html Ā The items tagged with a 32 are 32 bit, and the ones tagged with a 64 are 64 bit! B)
OrangeRibbon
I am guessing the ones for Mandrake 9.X will not work with 10.0. ( I tried then anyway.) I guess this means I have to wait for updated drivers to come out? On the plus side I am really enjoying Linux :D Even if I can't do alot of things so far. Ixthusdan
Actually, these particular drivers compile on your machine. They should work fine.
Sarissi
If this is for Nforce chipset drivers, then 10.0 comes with builtin support. If this is an Nvidia Card, then look in the downloads area (link is above at top of page).
OrangeRibbon
Hmmm Mine didn't work right out of the gate then cause it is the Chip Set. Anything I should do then? I am waiting for an email from NDivia teck suport.
Ixthusdan
Could you specifically explain what you mean by "it didn't work"? B)
