Lord Kenneth
It's incredibly laggy - ~4 frames per second. Uh... the video drivers are installed. America's Army works fine. But not NWN :( Any ideas why?
SoulSe
Welcome to my World. You aren't alone with this problem, in fact if you checkout the forums on the Bioware website you will find that you are one of many. So lets get the basics down: Version of Mandrake? Kernel Version? What graphics card are you using (I'm guessing nvidia)? How did you install nwn? Try the following if you are a nvidia user: 1. Make sure agpgart is disabled. 2. # opengl-update nvidia 3. run glxgears - DON'T RESIZE THE WINDOW and report back here with the results. You could also post your XF86Config file... phunni
Although you can hope for much better, it will probably always run a little badly. I get around 40 fps i nthe game (should be fine) but I still get the occasional judder and even sometimes total system freeze (always when trying to save a game. I think it's simply a weakeness of the Linux client. Do make sure you upgrade to the latest version though - it may help...
Guest JaseP
In my experience this is not related to AGPgart. It's related more likely to using the opensource ATI drivers and DRI. I have this problem on my laptop. On my desktop, running an nVidia card with nVidia drivers and AGPgart, NWN sings...
liquidzoo
I think a lot of it has to do with what kind of card you have. I have 2 nvidia chipsets on my 2 computers. One is a GeForce 4 Go (32MB version) on my laptop, the other is a GeForce 4 MX440 (64MB version) on my desktop. Both computers experience very low framerates in nwn, but no lag at all in other games. I know SoulSe has (or at least had) an mx440, others do too. The ones that I've noticed that don't have a problem with this game have a GeForce 4 Ti or better. Baybe it's got to do more with the chipset than anything else. I should mention that I've had no problems on either chipset with this game in Windows, so if it is related to the chipset then it's only related to the Linux client as well. I never did see if SoulSe got better results after doing some tweaks. Did you SoulSe?
johnnyv
Yeah geforce 4 Ti4200 no problems.
Lord Kenneth
I got it working perfectly, after reinstalling HOWEVER... Now the damn thing crashes whenever I try to load up the main game part, or the sound/advanced graphics menus. No errors reported.

Guest JaseP
This must be a Mandrake thing. I use SuSE and have an nVidia GeForce4 MX440 w/ 128 MB of RAM, running the nVidia 4496 drivers using AGPgart for AGP... No noticeable slowdown. I got the details cranked up and am running at 1024x768. I can't even run it on my Laptop with an ATI Radeon 7500 chipset. That runs the opensource ATI drivers and uses DRI. Lord Kenneth
http://pgshopping.com/mdkxp/?c=artcls/nwnfaq I saw it. That didn't help me. I'm going to try installing from the resource files instead of from a windows install-- it should be working, though.. Argh. Yes, I do have an NVIDIA GeForce Ti4200, but I doubt it's that. phunni
Ok - I just read DOlsens thing and it finishes with the suggestion that you do: X && ./nwn Trouble is that this will never work as nwn won't be run unitl X has finished. Nevertheless, Iike the idea of running just a bare X server with nwn on top - anyone got any ideas as to how to do this?
johnnyv
from memory make sure your in run level 3, then "xinit" should give you x with a terminal window, so you can exec nwn from there. man:/xinit in konqueror.
phunni
I edited my .xinitrc to start nwn instead of fluxbox. No noticeable improvement - if anything it was more unstable. Does anyone else ever get a complete system hang sometimes during nwn? Everything becomes completely unresponsive and I have to hit the reset button...
