Ixthusdan
Are you building a server?
Art
No; Just for home use. These workstation are actually graphic workstations for image processing work. I thought I could get more processing power by adding an extra dual pentium chis to the mother board. Ther is actually an extra bay there for an extra dual chip. Any advice? Thanks, Art
Ixthusdan
My understanding is that a server may actually utilize a multi processor system, especially if it is on a larger network with several servers running on one machine. I have heard that a graphics machine can utilize two processors, but it is really ram that makes a difference. (I work with graphics!) Unless it's a server, I'm not sure that the extra computing power is actually doing anything, besides staying warm and out of the way. :D
arthur
interested in making a Beowulf class supercomputer? i'm making a how-to. However Beowulfs are not really for home use...more like for research institutions/universities/etc. Unless you use POV-Ray-mpi (or other apps with parallel versions), you won't get performance improvements for everyday use.
