Not totaly sure what mean here, but I am going to assume that you mean in the same way as in win98/2000/XP?

I don't really know of any technology built into Linux that really allows for this. Usually, what you need to do is to create either samba shares and use samba or create NFS shares (the latter being native to linux).

As for a program or command that will allow you to browse a linux network, I don't know.

I realize that is probably not much help.

that all depends on what kind of access you want. if you have ssh running on the other machines, you can use konqueror. konq supports sftp, so you could sftp into the other machines and be one your way. with this you can actually drag and drop if you really want to (just split up the window, in kde anyway, and your set).

location bar:sftp://sftp.othermachine

if it has an actual hostname, that is registered one, then you can put that in. if not then just put the ip address in. if you have specified the othermachine's ip in /etc/hosts then just put the name of the machine in and your all done.

cheers.

edit: if your just trying to get to the other machine without ssh, then your best bet would be samba or nfs.

Hi,

You would need to use LinNeighbourhood. I don't know if this package is available to pre 9.2 users as I only have 9.2 after migrating from Redhat.

LinNeighbourhood would be located under the networking menu on your menu bar (GNOME). If you don't have it, install it. It will allow you to view public shares from other machines (WIN32/LINUX).

Hope that is of some help.

I couldn't get anywhere with Mandrake's wizards on this, so I set it up manually using the Rute Manual as my guide.

It's probably on your CD's and it gives a fairly straight forward explination on how to set up a LAN (check chaps 25,27,28). If it's not on your CD's you can check it out here
