Darkelve
Hi, I'm trying to play Morrowind in Windows XP. Everything starts up fine, but after a few minutes, the screen blacks out and 'hangs'. The REALLY crazy thing is, the next time I play it I can play longer before I hang/reboot... So I do get further in the game but as you see it is not really convenient. It does not seem to matter if I play in a window or full-screen. I searched some posts about this, there are some excellent forums on it. A couple of things I have tried: - Updates to the latest Nvidia drivers. * well, it doesn't stall anymore now. Instead, it reboots! - Play with No shadows, 16 bit color, 'high performance' for image settings (in the Nvidia configuration utility, instead of 'high quality images') Edit: I just found out it is not possible to play in 16 bit. Don't want to confuse anyone The forums also mention the problem could be with the power supply (which I had changed about a month ago). Still, why would it let me play longer every time!? Any suggestions? Also, I'm curious: is it possible to run this game under Wine? Would be interesting to see if the thing hangs/reboots in that case. Darkelve P.S. Sorry 'bout posting a Windoze XP issue here :( Edited January 14, 2004 by Darkelve

Darkelve
Steven, After a long while searching, I think I found the problem: - I put off hardware accelleration for audio - I changed the sound output device (don't recall exact name) to the nvidia nforce one; it was configured as something else (something standard) at first! Been playing Morrowind for about 2 hours yesterday. This game seems great! Imho I like it much better than neverwinter, where -in the end- it probably comes to fighting and there is not that much room for Role Playing, or just relaxing if you want too! The graphics are not so recent, but a beauty to behold nevertheless. And the fighting system is kind of symplistic, which does not really bother me, because I can't fight :) I thought it was a hardware problem and therefore put it in hardware. Don't really care where it's placed though, especially as its solved now. Darkelve
