var partition 100% full [solved]
curtis e. bear replied to curtis e. bear's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
Nevermind, did a service -R and it's where it should be now -
Still doesn't work. I think that it isn't workign because the hard drive keeps being written to, even when it is just sitting there. It's not alot, but it prevents it from starting to spin down.

Can anyone tell me why when someone uploads or downloads to/from my computer through ftp over the internet, it so so slow, even though I have dsl and nothing else is slow... Are there some default bandwith restrictions in proftpd? [moved from Software by spinynorman]

curtis e. bear replied to curtis e. bear's topic in Hardware
I got the new hard drive and the old one running as slaves on an xp machine, i tried to use Norton Ghost because it can read ext 2 partitions, and it said it worked, however i cannot boot to the new drive. -
over the night my hard drive bit the dust (running mandrake 10.1). It can run for an hour now, maybe, because it doesn't get too hot, but when it does, i think it quit then. So, is it possable to just copy all files from the old harddrive to a new one without having to reinstall? It took me weeks to get the old one working the way i want it to and i don't really remember how to do it again. What can i do??? PLEASE HELP QUICKLEY!!!!

Yah, yahoo and hotmail mail both works from a client machine (the mandake machine is the server) running xp. I cannot ping mx1.hotmail.com however do you think mx1 is mail exchange 1 and i need to create an alias or somthing like that so it knows where to go for the hotmail address? -

Does anyone know of any energy management software for mandrake? I'd really like my hard drive to spin down when not in use.

on my server (mandrake 10.1) i have two printers, an HP LASERJET III and a Canon S600. I turned on the HP for the first time after installing mandrake, and immediateley it starts squirting out pages with one line of garbage on the top the sheet, and it doesn't stop. any idea why this is? on my previous installation i upgraded from 9.2 to 10.1 and it worked fine that time, but i was forced to install again, and now it does this.

i ran the command ipconfig ppp0 | mailto -s ipaddress someone@somewhere.com but with my own email in there, and mailto seemed to work, i got an EOF, but i don't see the mail when i check it on my xp machine. Does mailto use smtp or pop3? if so, i would probably have to allow those. -

Does anyone use a firewall other than shorewall, and if so, what is it? Shorewall is completley messing up my interenet sharing, i think, plus it's settings are pretty general. Running Mandrake 10.1

So what if i just want to through the output of an ifconfig ppp0 into the body of an email and automatically send that to someone@somewhere.com (without any intervention after it has been setup) Also, would it be setup in atd or cron or what? -
Why is it that I cannot copy files into the /home/samba/public folder ? I can see them, and I added the machine name of the client machine to the "writeable" users, yet still nothing... I can print through samba as well.

You may want to see if the firewall is blocking anything, that has been giving me alot of headaches lately.

problem solved, it was the firewall
