  1. Hi. I have a dell i8500, and am trying to add a few things to my modprobe.conf. namely, alias floppy off, and a statement to load the i8k drivers. but every reboot seems to clear my changes out. Any help is appreciated
  2. Hate to reply to myself, but this might help others I got my stuff working, not sure exactly what it was, but I added the following to smb.conf: use client driver = yes the Global section and also added guest ok =yes to the printers section, and finally changed the print command to: print command = lpr -P %p -o raw %s -r now everything is working both from vmware and a windows box.
  3. Hi. I'm trying to get my one remaining windows box, and my vmware virtual machine to be able to print to my printer connected to my linux box. I have samba configured to share the printer, via the drakwizard samba module, and can see it in network neighboorhood fine, I also can browse to the home directoy of the connected user, if I type in the directory (ie it isn't displayed, but is accessible). Problem is that when I try to add the printer to windows it goes okay, but once the printer is added I can't print to it, in the printer control panel I get a little red message: "Access denied, unable to connect". seeing that I have access to files, I can't figure out what I need to do to allow access to the printer. thanks for any help.

    SAMBA users

try smbpasswd smbpasswd -a user password this will work if the user is in the system already, also check the man and help page for smbpasswd
  5. could always just bring in a cd of knoppix, and boot it up and leave it.. that would probably freak them out enough... plus no harm done, as it runs off the cd, and would only cost you the cost of 1 blank.
  6. xvidtune didn't do a thing.. in the current session. I've tried a few different modlines with no luck also X works but the whole screen is shifted over to the left about 3/4 of an inch. also the console is shifted the same. so I don't think its a X thing. maybe there's a kerenl param you can pass from lilo??? win2k runs okay as well, and the ati driver there has an adjustment feature that works. I'm really trying to get linux on it as I want to move my mom to it. I tried gutting the thing hoping I could use a different monitor, and create a new case for it, but it wouldn't boot with out it's own monitor connected..
  7. Trying to get linux up and running on a crappy emachines eone. This happens in both X and at the console. I've tried xvidtune, with no luck, part of the problem is that the monitor has a fixed horiz. freq (3 of them) . the lilo boot prompt is centered correctly, as is teh dos prompt from a dost boot disk. any help is appreciated. forgot to mention, the eone has no manual screen adjustment buttons.
