I think you were using RDP (MSTSC) from windows in which case what i do is open up a terminal & type the following
rdesktop -k en-gb -u USERNAME -g 1024x768 IP-ADDRESS-OF-SERVER
which will run the APP rdesktop using the GB keyboard layout with a window size (1024x768). I then created a shortcut with the above command & icon. Then from then on just click the icon. There is a GUI for this but i'm not sure about that myself. Also running
rdesktop
on it's own will give you some more info.

Hey,
It look's like the CD is meant to autoplay when inserted & as you say it's made for windo$e. Try opening it in a new window then right clicking on the Troy's Memory.ppt file & open using OO. I would copy the whole CD to a temp file, then read the play.bat file using kwrite & have a look at what commands have been issued. Also Mandriva will be able to play wma files (I think you need to set up your repositories using EasUrpmi (top of the page) & include PLF)

Take a look here for wireless cards & Linux then if you have any futher comments please fire away :)

cheers for that. I have 768 MB so I will try copy2ram a go after installing nvidia & see how it fairs.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick respose. Absolutley brilliant!! will now have a play (boy's will be boy's :) )
cheers

Hi just got the CD working & I'm very impressed to say the least :) running from ram is awesome.
Am I right in thinking that once I boot the live cd (Delft) then install some apps (vnc, Nvidia, thunderbird etc) which I have already tried changing the repo's & all that worked fine. I can then remaster the live cd by pointing it to one of my working HD's (ext3). Which in turn will create an iso on that drive so that when I boot back into my distro I can then reburn it & all the settings, programs will then be available on the new remastered live CD?
Also if I am correct with the procedure would also not affect anything on my HD when remastering?
Sorry if this is way to obvious, just wanna be sure before I tamper with the HD
TIA

Thanks for the pointers. I didn't really know what that particular error meant but know that you've enlightened :) me I will further investigate the possiblity of the disc & go down that road.
Thanks
EDIT: Feedback:
well as you stated it was the CD. I reburnt the iso to another cdr/w (sony) & all was well so thank you.
Wow copy2ram is absolutley brill, I really can't get over the speed of a 'live cd' well done..
Wireless works (Ndiswrapper) :)
One thing I did notice was when running the command 'mklivecd --help' it showed
--usbhome Use USB memory stick devices as a persistent home when available/connected on bootup. (broken)
Anyway I will start a new thread for that - a big thanks for a very nice live cd :)
ps: for once I wish I had a ATI for the 3D desktop lol

Just to add I too have the same problem or simlair. I've burn't the image (Delft) on a CDR/W at 4 speed, checked the MD5 which all seems fine. Once I reboot with the disc in place & go for the default start up it stops at this error
mount: Mounting /dev/loop0 on initrd/loopfsfailed: invalid argument
which then proceeds to a limited shell

Once it loads the VM it will always winge about the tools not being install & as Ian has stated this is only for the VM not the host. Once the tools are installed in the VM the message should disappear. I would disagree with Ian though on the 'you normally only install these tools for Windows' The tools once installed in the VM regardless of Windows or Linux will greatly enhance the experience for instance 'full screen' 'depth' 'nic drivers' etc...
So do we take it that you can now get to VM?

LinDVD has been dropped from the powerpack for 2007.1 - if you have powerpack 2007.0 & have upgraded then it will still be there but if a straight install using 2007.1 then there is no LinDVD :( don't know why maybe someone else can answer that!

might want to fix your enter key, it looks like your paragraphs were not put in

lol -- I agree with phunni though & as well as energy I suppose it's time. In the world we live in now-a-days it's all go, go, go. I remember the story of a wife who was in a hurry to meet some friends which meant that she had no time to cook a meal for her hubby. Anyway being the nice lady that she was she left a microwaveable meal next to the -- microwave with a letter of apologises. When she got back later that evening the meal was still next to the microwave untouched. Apparently the husband moaned that he didn't eat the meal cos the instructions stated that he had heat it for 2 MINUTES then come back turn it OVER then heat it for another 2 MINUTES... I think you get the jist.
We've become programmed now to expect things to just appear - we want to watch something we switch on the telly - hey presto! - drive throughs - drop in clinics - & the list goes on..
Having said that good on you mystified - someone's got to do it! :)

I think after you re-install it you need to run XFdrake as root & select it again (your card) from there as well -

Hey.. well I would always check /var/log/messages for any error messages/clues?
-
I have to second what Gowator states. I use NFS everyday between to particular Linux distros & I have never has problems with disconnections during transfers, play media files & the like. The times of disconnections for me are when maybe my wireless drops. What do your logs say (/var/log/messages)? I would also like to point out that I only use NFS on my LAN which is protected ;) cos NFS is indeed quite simple..

once you've got the mirrors (step 3 I think) just copy & paste each one into the terminal then hit the enter key
example:
urpmi.addmedia --update plf-free ftp://mandriva.cointech.net/pub/plf/mandriva/2007.1/free/release/binary/i586/ with hdlist.cz
followed by enter then copy the next one etc... HTH

Sorry...I hope my clarification didn't offend, it was not intended to. What I read was that Jza intends to switch between dhcp and static at various points and time, preferrably from the command line, and not necessarily rebooting between changes. If he switches to static as he suggests (from the CL), the config files won't change. If he leaves his system on, when he comes back to it, looking at that file won't give him the information he needs. That is, just because it was dhcp or static when he booted doesn't mean it still is - if at some point he changed it from the CL with ifconfig. I wasn't saying you were wrong or anything, I was simply trying to clarify what that file will tell him, and suggest a means which may give him the information he needs in all circumstances - whether he changed the config from the CL or changed it from MCC.
and I assure you I don't read minds ;)
you most certainly did not offend me on the contrary. Unforunately conversing via typing, notes, Emails etc in some cases loses the essence - & I'm glad you can't read minds, cos that's just TO dangerous ;)
-
That will only tell you what it was set up to do on boot. If you change settings via the command line, as Jza discusses in the first post, this file will not be modified and won't be particularly useful. If you change them in MCC it may get modified, but not if you're doing it from the CL.
well as i understood the OP was asking if there was a way to find out they had , but you obviously read minds as you assume!

I'm sure there many ways to 'skin a cat' the way I know is to do a cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file which will tell you (BOOTPROTO=static)... HTH

most of what do want to change can be got from http://www.kde-look.org/ - for the KDM Login you will need to install moodin & KDM theme manager (I think that's what is called) which I believe you can install from within Mandriva (you have setup the repos though?) if not already present.

I've had similar problems on other Mandriva versions. Do you use wireless on your Mandriva 2007.1? I came to the conclusion for my problem that it was the windows .inf file I use along with Ndiswrapper. Anyway for me I now use WinSCP on the windows PC & this way if there is a disconnection you can resume instead of trying to copy all over again

maybe also renaming /etc/asound.state to /etc/asound.state.old then restarting might help
USB 2.0 - Speeds
in Hardware
Posted · Edited by jaraeez
Hi,
I've just purchased a USB 2.0 speed HD & was wondering what speeds I should get when copying over something.
I'm not to sure which of my USB ports are 1.1 & which are 2.0.
At the moment I manage speeds around 7.4 MB/s - would this be right for 2.0 & if not what speeds should I be getting?
TIA
Just noticed that when I copy a file using ntfs-3g on one partition I get 17.5 MB/s though when copying to a ext3 I get the above mentioned speed (7.4 MB/s)??
