  1. Here's a tribute wallpaper for anyone who wants it (I expect no one): http://icculus.org/~dolson/images/tribute1.jpg Preview:

    .

I guess this port has been cancelled? No one seems to know for sure... Oh well.
  3. Okay, here is the archive. http://icculus.org/~dolson/MDKXPTTRLS-2003...030702A.tar.bz2 You must read the README file... I hope it isn't too restrictive or anything. Again, you *CAN* do whatever you want, except please leave the copyrights at the bottom. And I'd really appreciate the logo to stay too. Anyhow, do with it what you will. I will announce new releases here, if any.
  4. I just went to loudas.com and it's SLOW. Is there a section here you can put it in? If not, it's okay. I'll make up a package that anyone can take and use, but I'd prefer that the logo that I make up stay on the page. That'll be my stipulation. You must include the logo I make up. I'll try to prepare it all tonight and I'll edit this post (or make a new one) with a link and info.
  5. He's a pretty cool guy. Too bad he only stops by once in a while anymore. Such is life. Busy, busy, busy.
  6. I have posted the [possibly] last news update on my website, The Mandrake eXPerience.
  7. Yeah. Well, I've been considering closing the site. I have lost all motivation since Afrosheen's server moved and disappeared from the Net. I do a lot of work on other sites now, such as LinuxHardware.org, LinuxGaming.net, and such. Plus I'm looking for a job. The final nail in the coffin is icculus.org's server has disabled some part of PHP that I need... Well, and I don't use Mandrake anymore (which is fine, except...) and my wife's PC has died, which is what I would run Mandrake on to do my tutorials. Well, I hope you can understand where I'm coming from... I don't have money to pay for hosting and a domain name, and I can't rely on free rides anymore. They just aren't reliable. My own server here has only got a DSL connection, and it's still capped right now, plus my connection isn't stable. Anyhow, I do remember writing that to you now. :) Take care. EDIT: yeah, I posted the final news item today. No sense prolonging it.
  8. Don't mind Madhattr. He's just being a pot-smoking lazy-ass. I don't remember what it was that I helped you out with, and I never expected anyone to remember the exact date on which I helped them... It's... Scary.
  9. FreeCraft is just being renamed and will continue under that new name, as we discussed before. They are also removing the WC2 compatibility. As for your WineX problem, ask in the Emulation forum. As for your other problem, did you install your 3D drivers properly? Did any games ever work? It sounds video-related, so post the output of glxinfo so we can look at it please.
  10. heh. well, good thing he didn't read the LGFAQ, or else you still wouldn't have helped anyone. ;)
  11. Well, you can't blame TuxGames for the slowness of BioWare... It's got nothing to do with TuxGames. In fact, they could have just went off and threw the CDs at us and said "there, figure it out." Sure, you don't need cinematics for all of the chapters as the info gets put right into your journal, but it sure makes the ending of the game anti-climatic... As far as KotOR goes, BioWare has said already (on IRC) that it is a Microsoft-exclusive game. That means PC and Xbox only. So, I'd stop bugging them about it and go after the other titles that they haven't announced yet... I hope they will port something else, and that we didn't give them too hard of a time with all that has happened with NWN...
  12. If people would just name their projects totally different than the game they are cloning, we'd be much better off. bnetd... Lindows... FreeCraft... I see a trend. Okay, the first one isn't that similar, but still. By the way: http://images.lindows.com/closed/LindowsRock.swf
  13. Yeah, I was reading reviews of the Xbox version... Apparently Max Payne (which first featured bullet time and such) is a better, yet older, game to get.
  14. Meet me on IRC and I can help you with ravage's installer. Or he'll probably post in this thread helping you, you never know with him. :) I won't be home until Monday though. You'll need the NWN CDs.
  15. Yes, that's right. And you can now download all the data you need, so really, you just need to buy the game for the CD key and you're all set. Also, the Shadows of Undrentide expansion is out and it works with Linux too.
  16. It is noteworthy that you can learn Linux just fine with any distro, so long as you make an effort to learn it. In reality, you don't need to know how to do LFS, but it would be cool to do... If I didn't start off with Mandrake and try learning as much as I could, I would have never got Gentoo running, nor would I have gotten Debian installed and configured.

    Old skool games?

    ePSXe for PSone games.

    Old skool games?

TuxNes, ZSNES, SNES9x, and I think Xmess all emulate some older consoles, and then there's VirtualBoy Advance, GNUBoy I think, and ePSXe... There's a lot. Just look for Linux Emulator NES SNES or whatever you want on Google and you should find lots of stuff.
  19. You can buy them from TuxGames, ixsoft, or other places like that. Sometimes EB has old stock for cheap. I usually buy all of my games from TuxGames. And by the way, anyone who wants to make 5% off of any TuxGames sale can do so. Just sign up for a referrer account like I did, and put your name in the link as the referrer. It takes a long time to get enough to buy a game though, so be warned. In fact, I've never actually got enough to buy a full game, but hey, if you're looking for a bit of a discount, it's the way to go. I talked it over with lgp-michael because I was feeling bad about it, and he said that he's grateful for every sale, and 5% is well worth it to him to have someone buy some stuff from them. Loki never ported Quake 3 Arena. They packaged it in a tin box with an installer on the disc and called it the Elite Edition. They also didn't port UT. They did maintenance for a while, but that's it.
  20. Those images are compressed too much. Compare: vs (Original images from http://icculus.org/~dolson/mdkxp/?c=ttrls/nvidianew) I use a GF4 Ti4200 128MB right now.

  22. My guess is no. It depends on if TTimo has any trouble porting it and such. I hope he could get it done in time, but I wouldn't hold my breath. They'll probably just release a downloadable binary as they have in the past. (Yet another reason I'll get it from TuxGames. They'll ensure I can install it and run it on Linux with no need for Wine or Windows.)
  23. But doesn't mandrake patch their kernel like mad - wouldn't newbies be asking for trouble replacing their working kernels? Mmmm, no... Gentoo patches their kernels a lot too. In fact, most distros do. You can get patches, apply them to vanilla kernels (as Gentoo does as part of the emerge process), or you can just use a vanilla kernel... I've done that countless times on Mandrake systems. I usually just add in the preempt patch, as it gives me the best responsiveness. That's what I'm running right now, but with 2.4.20 (2.4.21 reduced my IDE performance to something horrendous). The only thing that would cause problems with using a non-Mandrake kernel is if you rely on some of the drivers that they add in, like certain webcam drivers, XFS or some other exotic filesystem support, etc. Of course, you could probably find those patches too, and use them with a vanilla kernel if you want. Myself, I try to rely on nothing outside of the standard kernel source.
  24. Tuxgames has it listed as the 31st of Oct 03, I would give it an extra month or more. Yeah, if Trent Reznor says they're pushing it back, then they could keep pushing it back further than that. I'm going to order my copy from TuxGames when it's released so I'm sure to 1) count as a Linux sale 2) support my friend Michael and 3) get it in a DVD case. :)
