To help you best when you ask a question on the MUB we need a minimum amount of relevant information and you need to have done some things yourself. That's why I've made a small list of things to check when you open a new topic on Mandrakeusers.org. It's just a first try so if you want to give any input on these items, or maybe want to add something, feel free to reply.
Practical posting guidelines:
1: Use the search function to check if your question has been answered in an earlier post.
2: Post your problem in the correct sub-forum
3: Use a clear topic-title and, if you use Mandrake, tell us what version you're using. Example: Mandrake XX - No sound after configuring Audigy 2 ZS.
4: Always tell what you have tried yourself and what tools you have used.
5: Describe your problem coherently.
6: Do not ask the same question twice
7: If you problem is solved, edit your post and add the word [solved] to the topic title.
8: If people help you, say thankyou. Don't just leave the thread.
9 If you solve a problem, say how you did it, rather than just saying it's now solved. Then other people with the same problem can find the solution.

Did you set up your urmpi? http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=10600
-
Why don't you use the normal desktop ? Switch to Gnome, it's far better.All praise Gnome! beer.gif
You've fianlly made the right choice.
I can blame both :bvc: and Ubuntu for that!
-
Nope, the big Icons I found at your hated place (A.G.O.) :P
-
Gdesklets can make wonders ;)
When making a desktop, try to find stuff that fits nicely together (color, shape and background). The theme I tried to go after is 'Future' 'cloning' and 'sterile'. And a nice detail is the song running on the xmms that's called 'Bigger Harder Faster Stronger' by Daft Punk. The same thing I did with the October contest.

My vote goes to :bvc:

minimalistic eh? :)
Minimalism have its own coolness you know. I like it actually, nothing to interfer or disturb the eyes
-
All praise Gnome!
-
Okay I got an answer from skynnyr at the Gnome forum:
One way to achieve this would be to change the icon properties. Replace the names with the space character. The name of the "Computer" icon can be changed by editing the /apps/nautilus/desktop/computer_icon_name key with gconf-editor. If the key doesn't exist, create it.Seems to work :)
-
Done. I'd put the question there.
-
No need of anti-virus program. And if you're on Dial up connection I can't see any reason for a firewall.
-
Hi :)
Is it possible to get rid of the text under the icons that's on the desktop so it's only the icon(s) that is shown?
Thanks

What about making some Xmms themes that fits to your stuff?
Really great the 'Simple theme' looks good!
Though D3a is my favour of your themes (Hopes you'll make/add more to it :) )

Warty Warthog Features
* Simple and fast Installation
Ubuntu comes on one single CD, with thousands of extra packages
available online. The install is optimised for speed and
simplicity. Ubuntu has excellent support for laptops (both
x86 based and Powerbook / iBook PPC based), and can also be
setup in a minimalist server configuration.
* GNOME 2.8
Ubuntu was the first distribution to ship Gnome 2.8, on the day
of the 2.8 release. Ubuntu is a great way to try out Gnome 2.8 if
you have not already experienced its speed and simplicity.
* Firefox 0.9 (with security patches)
* First class productivity software
Evolution 2.0 and OpenOffice.org 1.1.2
* XFree86 4.3 with improved hardware support
We also worked hard to detect as much hardware as possible,
simplifying the X install considerably.
Warty can be installed in a minimalist mode for servers, or in full
desktop mode. It works well on laptops and desktops. Warty is secure
by design - a key goal was to ensure that Warty was as safe from attack
over the internet as possible after a default install.
Thanks to the team of professional and volunteer maintainers who have
worked so hard to bring the Warthog to life, and also to our rapidly
growing community, who have provided excellent testing and ideas for
the future of Ubuntu!
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word for "humanity towards others", and
we think it's a perfect name for an open source community project. In
that spirit we invite you to join, to contribute and to share Ubuntu
with your own community. Our next release, the Hoary Hedgehog, is due
in six months time. You can help to shape it by joining the team
and contributing your own expertise. See you at #ubuntu on
irc.freenode.net.

FYI....
After building a new box and needing mplayer I tried to use Marilets unstable and no worky, he must be moving to more bleeding edge debian but, if you move to testing, you should be able to install most everything.
# Mplayer and dvd::rip (video-dvdrip)

Or do it from the source (like me )
There's howto in the ubuntu forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=94

D, just saying your custom panel got me playing with the gimp and my own custom panels. One thing lead to another til I finally thought I was capable of porting bbx mercury so I could have a good 'dark' theme that was usable. It's not hard, just a matter of going through the motions. I'm glad gnome-look.org came up. The increase in themer's/contributor's is good t see. A.G.O is a joke. I told them they could pull my stuff from there if they wanted to after recieving an email about an icon theme I submitted that had stock icons. They think they are the theme police, lol....I installed a theme from a.g.o the other day and it has many bugs/errors and is ugly!. All of my stuff was submitted and only one metacity theme was put up, lol. But if you go to gnome-look and saw the bandwidth usage on my site, mine are very popular. Gnome purist
I know FBI, CIA and KGB etc but Who's A.G.O? :unsure:
