  1. Thank you much! I'll try that out as soon as I can and let you know if it worked!! :D
  2. I have what I think to be a unique situation... Running MDK 10.1C on a Compaq Armada m700 latptop. I can't login to webmail at https://secure.netfirms.com/memberswebmail. Odd. I don't get an error, it doesn't even get far enough to check my username and password. What happens, regardless of what i type in the forms, is the page "loads" for a while (much longer then a time out) and then I get an error saying that the page is empty. I can login from any other computer, but not the laptop. I thought it was my wireless card, so I changed from my pcmcia to the built in ethernet hub. I thought it was my configuration, so I reinstalled. Fresh out of the box, I get the same thing. I thought it was my firewall, so I did a direct connect to my cable modem. I'm certain it's not the isp b/c I called. I'm at my wits end here. It's not ssl or https, b/c I can get in to other sites using https. I can even telnet in to the site on port 110 (to check pop mail), but I can't get the pop mail off the sever using Kontact. Anyone have any clue as to why this one site on this one machine would be giving me such a headache? Thanks, Jeremy
  3. Hey aRTee, Thought I'd let you know where I'm at. I, too tried 10.1CE and it looks very promising. For one, ACPI hibernate works everytime. No sleep though. Suspend works, but same problem, not way to get it out of suspend. I believe this is handled through a missing module of ACPI. I've also discovered what I think is a significant break through for the LCD/CRT issue. This, too, is handled by ACPI. That's why it works in bios and init 3, but not init 5. There has to be a module that takes the fnc+f4 event and passes it to the ACPI deamon, but I don't believe there is one for ATI Mobilty. I discovered this is how other video cards handle the switch. My intention is talk to the gatos folks for more details. My other thought is the ACPI=force option. It seems to be the only way to have certain features of APM working, but I'm (currently) thinking ACPI=on will enable the unsuspend button and fnc+f4 monitor switching. Care to try it? To get the "bells and whistles" of the card working, you have to d/l, compile and install the CVS version of X.org (6.8.1). There are a few files you have to modify first, and a little libGL manual swictching to do, but it works. I now have 3D! I plan on writting a small tutorial, I'll link to it here. I won't get to any of this until early next week, but we're getting it. One small thing at a time :P Jeremy
  4. I don't know if what you're trying to do can honetly be done (in a simple way). Sorry. Jeremy
  5. You should be able to adjust the setting for what happens when you close your lid using the klaptop. Jeremy
  6. There's a program called kwifimanager that allows you to have muliple configurations of one wifi card and choose which one to use. Perhaps that will work? jeremy
  7. aRTee I thought I'd start a new thread dealing specifically with the ACPI issues, the other one seemed to focus on the ATI card (which I still don't have 3D) I've installed MDK 10.1. APM is not that great, same as any other distro. However, ACPI is really taking one for the team. Sleep doesn't work at all, but suspend does. However, there's no way to get it out of suspend. Pressing the blue button restarts the system. There's got to be a way around that, do you know where the scripts are that control what that button does (or the ACPI scrtips at all? I can only find the APM scripts). Hibernate works every time for me. I've tested it like 12 times. Jeremy
  8. 10.1 is on it's way. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks, Jeremy
  9. Okay, what I've discovered is that my keyboard will only work if I do an interactive startup. I still don't have 3d acceleration. Right now, I'd be happy having my keyboard back. Can someone help? Thanks, Jeremy
  10. I'm using Mandrake 10.0 d/l edition. I've gone through the steps like three times now, and it's just not working... Jeremy
  11. I found that by doing an nteractive startup and not enabling keytable, I had a working keyboard. I found this at another forum, but I can't find the link to it. I'll post it when I do. After I started with my new drivers, I still had no luck. Direct Rendering: No. I tried adding Load DRI to my XFree-4 file, but then I got an error in /var/log/Xfree.0 that DRI module couldn't be found. My driver is listed as "ati". Is that correct? Anything else I can do?? Thanks for all your help! Jeremy
  12. Okay, I've tried everything and it doesn't seem to be working. Here's where I'm at: When I init 5 back into X, my keyboard doesn't work. I restarted the puter and it still didn't work. I then went back into init 3 and followed the same steps, and it happened again. No keyboard. hmmmm. I can't tell if my DRI is working, as I can't login in X. I copied my backups over the new installs, but now I get an error about differing versions of the XFree file (yes, I copied the backup over the new one). What should I do?? Thanks, Jeremy
  13. It seems to work, ie I get a login screen, but I have no keyboard functionality!! I'll dig around. Jeremy
  14. Good to hear yours worked arTree. I'll give it a try tonight! Keep your fingers crossed. :P Jeremy
  15. I can't direct rendering working at all... I think at tutorial would be great. MDK 10.0, kernel 2.6, ATI Rage mobility (mach64). glxinfo tells me direct rendering: no. What do I do from here? Thanks, Jeremy
  16. That's further then I got, but now that I'm back I plan on trying out a couple of more daring options. But first... 1) How do you know how many frames per second you're getting with GLXGears? 2) Do you have direct rendering? What the output of glxinfo | grep direct I was told by another that the 2.6 kernel had DRI support out of the box, but from what you're saying that doesn't seem to be the case? Jeremy [copy of preceding post removed by spinynorman]
  17. When I try it that way, I seem to get a 'stuck' keyboard. The letters just continually repeat. I've heard that hitting crtl+A fixes this. Do you find have that problem? If switching to console mode solves your suspend problems, it should be possible to add that to the suspend script, so that the step is automated. I'll try tonight. Let me know how the Gatos drivers work for you. Jeremy
  18. Wow, thanks for that ultra-informative crtl-s tip!!! :D I'm going to check that out. It would seem to be what I've been looking for. I, too am running MDK 10.0 with kernel 2.6. Here's what I've found: I think 3d-accel, fnc f4 and TVout are all related to getting a better ATI driver working (namely ATI.2 from gatos). My plan as of right now is to try to get it working using MDK 10.0 kernel 2.4 version, as those are available through RPM. If I can't, I've heard it works great in MDK9.2, so I might revert. If I get that far, I'll let you know. Then I'm going to try and re-compile support into my 2.6 kernel. One step at a time in an eighteen-million step process. I can't start that until next weekend, as I need my machine for a trip I'm taking this weekend (can't be caught Linux-less :P ) We'll get it! BTW... I'll look for that script tonight, but I seem to remember that was about right. Jeremy
  19. Hopefully, it's compiled into your kernel... If it is, then you're in luck. Install APM or ACPI, depending on which you want to use. Enable it under startup srevices in MCC. You may also need to adjust lilo. At this point, if you can use it, then great! If not, you may need to compile support into your kernel. Jeremy
  20. Dude!! I've been waiting to hear from someone else that has an m700! I'm in the same boat you are... no 3D acceleration, limited power support and limited external display funtionality. I can get APM to work better then ACPI, but I think ACPI is where I want to be. If you change the lock on suspend option in your APM suspend script, you'll get much better results when you come out of suspend, about 60% and the mouse will work everytime. For the 3D, I've been told you can compile from source the GATOS project to get it working. I need my puter this and next weekend, so re-compiling my kernel (for the first time) is out of the question for a couple a weeks. When I do try it, I'll let you know. I'll get you more details when I get home from work. BTW... Does your fnc+f4 work to turn on and off the external monitor? Jeremy
  21. I have a Compaq Armada m700 running MDK 10.0. Both APM and ACPI are compliled into the kernel, and I can use either one. The problem is that neither one of them really work enough to get me anywhere... APM - Suspend rarely comes out of suspend. When it does, the keyboard won't work ACPI - Suspend never comes out of suspend. If I hit the button to power it back up, it doesn't work. I've read some stuff about dsdt tables and the such, but I'm hoping someone here can give me better then that. Anyone? Thanks in advance! Jeremy
