  1. Well, I re-installed MDK 10.1 and everything seems to be running fine again. Must be Mandriva. I'll report the bug to them. Jeremy
  2. I would suggest an upgrade. Different releases have different bugs. Try 10.1 first, I had similar freezing issues with LE05. Jeremy
  3. UPDATE: I reformated my HD and re-installed Mandriva 2005 LE. It froze within the hour. Froze again several times. Y'arg. I'll try re-installing Mandrake. That ran fine for months. Hopefully, it's just Mandriva. Jeremy
  4. That's funny you mention that... I've noticed since this who fiasco started that my LED indicating HD activity never goes off. I know top monitors CPU usage, is there something similar for HD usage? BTW... I am getting an average of anywhere from 1 to 10 lines per second in /var/log/messages. Jeremy
  5. Firewall just uses syslog.conf to know how much to log. I'll significantly lower the level, since my logs just keep getting filled up. Any idea's about the freezes? Could it be the amount of CPU time coming from generating the logs? Jeremy
  6. ianw1974, I'm actually using Firestarter at the moment. I was blocking the address of several sites that seemed to be requesting port access to any open port on system, the only ones of which are open are www, ftp and ssh. Some of the requests were for ports like > 4,000, which I'm sure were closed. They all appeared to be from the same source. As soon as I blocked one source, another one quickly appeared. I can give you the list of sources if you'd like. Jeremy
  7. I no longer have the problem of the syslogs getting to large. That was just the catalyst that started this whole adventure. Jeremy
  8. History: I've had MDK 10.1 Running on this sytem for about six months, never had any problems. About a month ago, I upgraded to Mandriva 2005LE. Re-started, ran fine. I had 18 days of uptime with no issues. Then one day I came home, and the box was froze solid. No combo of keys would work, couldn't ssh in from anywhere, nothing... Did the hard reset. I got an error that my hd was full. That's odd, I thought. I reparition and give / another 1Gb so I can boot. Once I'm in, I see that the file /var/log/messages is about 2Gb. That's *really* weird, I didn't even think I could have files that big! The file is full, as in every single line, with messages from my firewall. I block the addy, and another appears, and another and another. Finally, after blocking about ten or so addy's, the messages stop appearing so fast, although they still appear quite frequently now. The problem: Since this event, I've been unable to maintain any sort of uptime. My box freezes solid *everytime* after about two hours. I can't figure it out. There's nothing out of the ordinary in any logs that I've looked in. Here's what I've tried: noapic, nolapic boot option removing all sorts of services including power management uninstalling the nvidia drivers (NForce MB only, not the Gforece video drivers) running memtest86 for hours blowing air conditioned air directly from my AC vent to the open box via a 15" fan (in case it was over heating) and finally, I tried every cron job on it's own to make sure those weren't doing it. I'm running out of things to try. Short of completely re-installing the OS, I don't know what to do. At this point, I'm pretty much willing to try anything. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Jeremy
  9. My card doens't require the btaudio module b/c the it's of the type with a jumper from the TV card to the sound card. I know that the audio problem is coming from the TV card. If I connect a mic to the line-in, I get sound. If I connect headphones to the line-out of the TV tuner, I get nothing.
  10. Hi all, I have a Kworld PVR 878 TV Tuner. It worked *perfectly* under MDK 10.1. Remote control and everything. Then I upgraded to MDR 2005 LE and it stopped working. Here's the problems I'm having now. Right off the bat, I had no sound, but I did have all the channels. Of course, the first thing I did was fire up MCC and try to reconfigure it. It autodetected everthing just fine, but then when it came time to scan for channels, well that didn't work either. It finds about ten or so channels, but they're all the same channel, and to make it worse, it's all TBS. So I get channels 2, 6, 10, 34, 76, and 55, but every single one of them is TBS. Plus, there's no sound. So... Any ideas? I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas! (j/k, I've tried everything I can think of). If you can tell me where to start, that'd be great. Jeremy
  11. Gowator, I don't have 3 tabs. I have only input and output. Of those, I've tried just about every possible combination of on/off I can, still nothing. Adam, That would be great. I'll give the new settings a try tonight, if you send me the files. I use Alsa (kmix is just the KDE front end to it), not OSS, although I tried OSS when I installed the nvidia driver. I'll update to Mandriva 05 as soon as I can. Just have d/l and upgrade. BTW... How was the upgrade from MDK 10.1 to MDR 05? Jeremy
  12. Well, Here's where I'm at with getting the surround sound working: I tried nvidia's drivers, they were actually worse then Alsa, so I switched back. I bought a splitter and now have both the center and fronts spliced together, just so that I can get sound out of the center speaker. speaker-test -c 5 (or 5.1) still gives me nothing out of the center, obviously, but at least I have a center (albiet setup like 4 channel). It would seem that my center output just isn't working. I can't figure out why. I don't know that it ever worked, as I never had anything but Linux in it. Also, kmix master volume still isn't working. Is that fixed in Mandriva 10.2? Jeremy
  13. I will try that. Where can I get MDK 10.2? All the links are dead: http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/102beta.php3 Jeremy
  14. Adam, You're file fixed a couple of my errors, but I still have the following issues: when I run speaker-test -c 5.1, I get no center speaker at all. Master volume doesn't work. Have I done something wrong? Should I restart alsa after I do alsarestore? EDIT: I just restarted it. No go. Thanks for your help! Jeremy
  15. I will do just that. BTW... Where did you get that copy of 10.2? Thanks, Jeremy
  16. I have an ASUS "A7N8X-E Deluxe" mobo that has 5.1 surround sound card. I just got some Logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers. I'm running MDK 10.1 official. I can't seem to get the speakers working properly. First off all, there's three outputs on the card, Center, Rear and Line-out (Which I assume should be Front?). When I run speaker-test -c 5.1 (or 5), Center and rear are switched and I get nothing from front. There's an option on kmix (kde front end to alsamix) that says "Duplicate Center", if I de-select that, then I get front and rear, but no center. What do I need to do get this working in true 5.1?? I feel like my sound card is all messed up. Line in won't work at all, but Mic in does. I'd like to have both mic and line-in working. I feel like when I plug in the headphones in the front, the speakers should cut out, but they don't. Also, in Kmix and alasmix, my main volume slider doesn't work at all. In order to adjust the volume, I have to turn up PCM. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Jeremy
  17. I found this elsewhere: Try adding those 2 lines at the end of the /etc/modprobe.conf file: alias ipv6 off alias net-pf-10 off Maybe it'll work. Jeremy
  18. I've noticed that MDK seems to put 127.0.0.1 as the first entry in /etc/resolve.conf. If it's there, try removing it and see if that helps. Jeremy
  19. It was in my book that came with the MOBO. On mine, the jumpers were located just behind the upper and lower USB ports on the rear of it. That doesn't mean yours will be, and I wouldn't recommend randomly moving jumpers. If you don't have the book, I'm sure you can get it from the Asus web-site. Good luck, Jeremy
  20. I have a similar board with USB 2.0. I had to manually change the jumper on the board in order to enable USB 2.0. Hope that helps. Jeremy
  21. Sure enought, this problem is solved in 10.1 Official. jeremy
  22. I do get an error related to mtu: Upload packet less than your MTU I get 1488/1500. The FAQ is specific to Windows, and everthing I find on google is about the 1492 mtu. hmmm Jeremy
  23. Update: I did a fresh install of MDK 10.0 and things worked as they should. I then updated to MDK 10.1 and the problem returned. Looks like it may be some sort of bug? I don't know how or why, should I submit it? Jeremy
  24. :( This didn't work for me. I tried everything the post said to... grrr Jeremy
