  1. lowly KDE 3.5 user so I am only guessing :D from the command line kdesu dolphin or su enter root password here dolphin
  2. I can't find a "modprobe.conf" file. I click "root" then "etc" then there is "modprobed" or "modprobe.preload.d" and thats my choices. thank you Look further down. You are looking for a file not a directory. The directories are listed first and then the files.
  3. I checked my /usr/bin directory. The file is called nvidia-settings on my system. Mandriva 2008.1 169.12 nvidia driver
  4. Well I am a KDE 3.5.9 user, so I can''t help. You need some KDE4 assistance.
  5. Good stuff scarecrow. Thanks.
  6. Well you are running a more recent driver than I am. I have 169.12. I do not have a PCI video card, and the only hardware checks I know are AGP related. Can someone else help with hardware configuration checks for a PCI card?
  7. to determine what driver version you are running, from the command line: /user/bin/nvidia-settings to check if your card is configured correctly (if it is AGP) cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
  8. Have a look here: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...mp;hl=blacklist
  9. My guess would be mplayerplugin from the repositories. I am not a mplayer user so I cannot verify this.
  10. Try the Mandriva One DVD. It is a live DVD that you can install from also.
  11. Maybe your firefox profile has been corrupted. Do yo know how to create a new profile? firefox -profilemanager
  12. If you are a KDE user, the menu opened by clicking on the star in the taskbar is labeled with "free" or "one".
  13. Adam Williamson is well respected on this board, and I found his security writeup of interest. There is some high quality software out there too. Kaffeine and K3b are second to none.....
  14. Fully updated 2008.1 has the 2.6.24.7 kernel Fully updated 2009.0 has the 2.6.27.7 kernel
  15. Do you see the gui when you attempt to boot that allows you to select safe mode? Can you boot using safe mode?
  16. Welcome to the MUB! B) I am assuming you can still boot using the live CD? I am assuming that when you installed you used your existing partitions? If you are not worried about losing data, I would reinstall and during the reinstall recreate new partitions. This will give you a clean start. That would be my first step if I were seeing these problems on my system.
  17. On my Mandriva 2008.1 system the DVD drive is also listed as a cdrom in fstab. I don't think that is your problem. /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto umask=0,users,iocharset=utf8,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
  18. Kaffeine uses xine so that is not the problem here. Trio3b: Have you tried different DVD's?
  19. I am confused. You have not loaded 2008.1 but it is not working? Are you using the Mandriva One bootable DVD? My guess is that 2009.0 will not help rectify your problems. In my experience, while wireless can sometimes present a problem there is nothing simpler than getting an ethernet card to work in Mandriva. It just works. Can you give us more details?
  20. Welcome to the MUB Have a look at this thread and see if there is any help: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...4&hl=kernel
