  1. I don't remember the title of it, but some year ago I tried one of these open source Linux flash editors, and being quite good with Macromedia Flash I can really say that they (or at least that was, but I remember asking around for the best) are shit! You could make a triangle and make it slide over the screen, but that was pretty much it, no advanced functions.
  2. sorry, aRTee the reason why people are talking about the xorg problem in installation, walkthrough, etc threads is probably due to the reason, that they see no reason to even install or configure a naturally broken thing. I won't talk about that again, sorry again
  3. Shot? That's too merciful, I advice hanging. I'm really quite frustrated (as a lot of other people) with this xorg stupidity! I wanted to install the new MDV on 2 of my friends' computers as the first Linux os they ever use, but I can't do that now. I thought about installing Kubuntu or Kanotix for them, but lastly opted for MDV2005, because I'll probably be their tech support and I know MDV2005 better than Kubuntu or Kanotix (which is a very cool distro for Linux presentation in its' live cd form).
  4. Actually that's very important. A newbie is more likely to break the system and he'd be more impressed with Linux if all his personal data stays untouched even if (s)he has to reformat,i.e., /home saves from potential and needless frustration.
  5. You might want to try out 2005LE (10.2), it's very stable and well done, actually for me it's the most stable Mandrake/iva ever used. And it has better USB support than 10.0 or 10.1
  6. I've been using Mandrake since 9.1 and imo the worst from that on was 9.2, it was a disaster on my box, such a disaster actually that I had gone Windows until 10.0 CE came out.
  7. Not if you need to have a stable system to do work. ;) I'm not touching MDV2006 for half a year at least, or more if they don't fix that Xorg bs.
  8. Really? That's the function I most hate in Quanta, hate all autocompleters really no matter what application. Always the first thing I turn off. Of course that's subjective.
  9. I won't pray, I simply won't use it. p.s. I think that this is the worst decision that Mandrakesoft has made in years!
  10. But I'm afraid that you might be having problems with graphics drivers for 2006. There is a huge mess with these in 2006 and many people (including me) are very angry about this (experimental xorg, messed up open source drivers). I suggest you try installing one of the official ATi or Invidia drivers first before doing anything else.
  11. maybe try reinstalling xorg? or if that doesn't help - a fresh install of 2006 --- Not a good advice, I know, but upgrading has almost always caused problems in Mandrake/Mandriva
  12. Well, for example for such things as at that in my page when you click on "Albumi", it shows the albums of the artist each in its' table cell. It will be easy for the artist to add additional albums later by himself, because the invisible part of the table has room for more albums to be put in. If you can offer a better sollution I'll appreciate it! Tables just seem a natural way for me to present this kind of data, but then.. I've been out of touch of the latest webdesign tendencies for the last three years or so. p.s. The table still lacks some finishing touches.
  13. Well, I guess my friend will get some other distro as his first then, I heard Kanotix is a few weeks away from a new release (or maybe it's already been released).
  14. Humm, but how about the Free isos that are out now? Why didn't they wait until the issue has been fixed? Or has it? Releasing a distro for the general public knowing such errors in code is unresponsible at the least. If MS did such a thing I think most of the internet would be up in arms crying foul.
  15. I think I've overdosed something
  16. shit! And why on earth did Mandriva release such a buggy version!? I mean - they had plenty of time to notice this, 95% cards out there are nvidia or ati, this is a extremely serious glitch!
  17. Frontpage isn't even a wysiwyg editor, it's a what-you-see-is-what-you-cry-for :P Dreamweaver is nice and sleak. NVU is a very simplified version of Dreamweaver. Quanta is nice, but has its' share of glitches too (it somehow manages to reformat code sometimes, but maybe that's an option I've yet to find out how to turn off). I dislike creating everything or most by hand, it takes tooooo much time, especially table drawing etc, text-only editor users are sadomasochistic maniacs  I prefer to edit pages from a text editor though, Kwrite is nice enough.
  18. Hi, can anyone say what's wrong with the experimental Xorg the new Mandriva uses apart from it being experimental? What exactly are the glitches? I'm asking because I'm putting MDV2006 on a friend's computer this week and I'd rather prefer to know what I'm going for. Thanks! p.s. Nice one getting on Slashdot again, aRTee!
  19. Decided to get free from Dreamweaver (VMwaring annoys), so I tried NVU for my first non-MS-software website Making it for one musician, and because he requested it to be simple and black & white, thought it to be a simple enough for NVU to handle, but I think I ended up doing more (or at least 50-50) by hand. --> damn that program needs more work on, and no, I'm not talking about missing features (those I can code by hand), but about glitches! Found several annoying ones today. anyways, here's the website I've been making today (it's in Latvian, but you can get the idea) http://piparmetra.net/pienene/
  20. That's not test or RC version, is it? The real thang, right? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> sure
  21. quite so I hope the new mdv won't have problems with his Windows partition and will give a good impression. The guy (and his room-mate) have never used Linux previously.
  22. ic, tnx on another note: the previous years (and versions) it was an easy choice - if there's a new version, install it asap, but now I've been trying hard to find a reason to install the new mandriva. my instincts still tell me - you have to have it, but then my reason says that all that you need mdv2005 already does perfectly (I've updated all the software). so I'm currently downloading the new version and will install it on my friend's computer sometime this week
  23. As I've heard MDV has problems with Yukon hardware
  24. Quite so, if you don't like it - don't use it.
  25. Here's one mirror: ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/ftp.mandriva.co...so/i586/2006.0/
