I downloaded the new nVidia Drivers from their site. I installed them and everything seemed to be going well until.... I then installed the KEuphoria (GL) Screensaver, because it looks very very pretty. It now runs at like 1 frame per 2 seconds which does not make it look so pretty anymore. Oh yes, and this is just after re-doing my WHOLE system. IE, brand new install of freeking everything. So now my question is this: Is it the drivers or is it something else....? Specs: GeForce4 mx440, Athlon XP1600+,256 DDR, MDK 9.0 Your help and comment with this regard will not go unNoticed... Many thanx... AA

click on the nvidia part... you need to do away with the default drivers... the site is still under construction...

If i ssh into another box, how can i upload files onto that box. It is also in a totally different ip range to me....? eg, I wanna upload updated html files for a web page, but i wanna do it via ssh cuz i dont feel like setting up the ftp...!!

Yeah... I downloaded the Front End for Nmap too. seems quite alright. Want something prettier though, more automated...!!

Are there any decent Network Scanners out there. But cool one like LANguard that scan everything....?? Does anybody know of any...?

Is there a good download manager out there that I can download, because the one's that come with MDK blow. So many of my downloads have failed and I am getting sick of it. especially when the download manager reckons that the download is complete when its not...!!

OK that would explain it... When glxgears was visable at the same time as the terminal window the FPS wasabout 3000. Then I strated doing other stuff and when I came back to the glxgears the FPS was in the 6000's. So yes that does make sense I guess... Cool, thanx. Question: how do you copy things out of your terminal windows....? I dont have an option to do that. or do you just use CTRL + C.............???

the term windows takes up about half of my desktop, it's transparent and yeah. I am using the KDE Konsole. I am not touching the windows either. I have a screenshot..... should i mail it...!! where should i mail it too...?

Ideally what I want to be able to do is go to any LAN and without editing my /etc/hosts file be able to resolve hostnames immediatly... Is that possible...? without running DHCP WINS and whatever all those other services are... Basically Can I set my box up to automatically get the hostnames from all the ip's on the local network ....?

Question: I LAN quite often with buddy's and stuff where there is no wins server. Does this mean that I should run one when I LAN sothat my system can resolve hostnames. And then does that mean that everybody else should run their own wins server too, because that way no matter where they LAN they can have hostnames resolved because they too are running a wins server. Otherwise each time they go to another LAN, they have to change the wins server ip......???

When you figure out how to do this, please tell me how.....!!

When I right click and say "share directory" and then OK, if I look again, the directory is not shared. It is also a directory in my home directory.

If RATTY is in the hosts file you will be able to ping him by typing If RATTY is not in the hosts file, the only way you will be able to ping him his I know this for a fact because I tested it. In theory there should be a way sothat the hosts file updates automatically, ie DNS server, but don't ask me how...!!

Found that if I create an NFS export with webmin then that nfs share is mountable by the other system and then the file copying can comence. But thanx for the avice johhnyv

enabled the sharing but i cannot get a dir in my home dir to share. I select share and then click ok. If I search for servers it does not shoe up. If I click sharing on that dir again it is not shared.... why is this...?

Okay, go and look in your /etc/ dir. There should be a file in there called hosts. In that file you can enter the name of your server as well as the ip address at which it can be found. Mine looks like this Basically what you are doing is telling your linux box which hostname belongs to which ip. Ideally you should be running a DNS server. A DNS server automatically enters in all of this information if I'm not mistaken. ie, when you request a hostname/domainname your NDS server will tell you at which ip that hostname can be found. It worked for me, I don't see why it won't work for you. But let me know.....!!

Linux can really piss me off sometimes. I fiddeled with the XF86Config file and then XF86Confid-4 file, with the mouse settings. Then ran drakxconf and re-selected my mouse again and suddenly this time round it works. who know. okay well to those who posted their advise. Thanx

Just 2 peeps who are LANing with linux and trying to share stuff but not being succesful. Okay, the NFS route. How does that work. What do I need to do. I have already created and NFS Export with webmin, but we can't seem to mount that...!!
