  1. Well... Courier is a "delivery agent" as such. It handle IMAP and POP connections.

    I have gone through man files and searched the web and not for the life of me can I find anything, or any configuration options...

    Who are the "courier" GURU's here ?????

  2. Right, so I'm setting up a new mail server running virtual mailboxes.

    The mailboxes have have permissions 700 for a specific user.

    I need courier to run as that user in order to access the Maildirs.

    How the hell do I get courier to run as a different user rather than root user ???

  3. Actually the differences are quite vast...

    look at the error code...

    error code 2 =  An error was detected in processing the options given, such as two mutually exclusive options being used.

    error code 16 = The link was terminated by the modem hanging up.

    I also don't have ".rpmsave" files... I use Gentoo

    maybe you should pay attention to what I'm saying before you tell me that someone else had the same problem...!!

    I was just really asking whether or not someone else had come accross my problem and whether they knew how to fix it...!!

    Anyway, lets not start a flame war.... Does someone know what the problem in my case is...?

  4. I'll try that...

    meantime... here's the output from wvdial...

    root@bluepoint aa # wvdial

  5. wvdial.conf

    [Dialer Defaults]

    Modem = /dev/ttyS0

    Baud = 115200

    Init1 = ATZ

    Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
    ;ISDN = 0

    Modem Type = Analog Modem

    Phone = 0123070300

    Username = user@worldonline.co.za

    Password = password

    Stupid Mode = on

    Carrier Check = on

    When I run "wvdial" as root the following happens:

    It finds the modem and dials.

    It sends the username

    It sends the password

    It starts pppd

    And then it drops the connection

    Tells me that "a modem hung up the phone"

    Now SoulSe dials into the same network if I'm not mistaken and it works fine for him...!!

    Anyone know why this is happening...

    SoulSe, if you could mail me your wvdial.conf it'd be much appreciated. If anyone else could paste their wvdial.conf in here that would also be appreciated.

    System spec:

    v90 Zoltrix External

    1400 MHz Athlon XP with Gentoo Linux

    wvdial is version 1.53

    pppd is version 2.4.1

    Anyone who can help pleez.

    It did work once before whilst using MDK 9.0 but never since then.!!

    thanx in advance

    Okay.... you can see my problem...!!

    I have checked permissions on su itself...

    I have also run "su -"

    Neither of these 2 things worked.....!!

    Has someone else had the same problem..?

    Does someone know how to fix it.!

    I don't.

  7. Well in the end

    #lilo -M /dev/hda

    Wiped my MBR so much so that I couldn't even install anything after that. There was some really weird shit going on, I'm not exactly sure what. Once I had wiped it Mandrake install froze when it got to the part where it detected the partitions. Red Hat did something funny too, can't remember what exactly. In the end I booted off my Win XP CD, got into the comand prompt and used "FIXMBR" which rewrote the MBR sothat just windows was available. Then I installed gentoo and this time round when I ran "lilo" it actually did something....

    Can ones MBR get full...?

  8. How the %*@# do I erase the Master Boot Record from Linux.....?

    I have been reading many many mans trying to find a way to do this but I still have not found anything.

    # fdisk /MBR : and almost all variations of that dont seem to work...

    Can someone help me pleez.

    thanx

  9. Well as it so happens, I am busy installing gentoo right now. It's 5:47am and I have not slept yet. I am downloading source files from a 56K dial-up connection and let me tell you..... this is not fun. Any one planning on doing it the old build it yourself routine be warned.... Keep this for a weekend to start the install and make sure that you have your PS2 ready for all the time you sit around waiting for stuff to download and compile... Also buy yourself a big ass tin of coffee..... You are so gonna need it.!!

    I too would like to see all the source files on CD's to save with the downloading. South Africa isn't exactly known for its high amounts of bandwidth. So this is aimed more at SA users that all you other folk with broadband, although apparently its a bitch for you too...!!

  10. I am running a debian mail server. woody v3

    The mail server uses exim to recieve mail and cyrus to send.

    The troubling part is that I get a lot of spam and can't for the life of me figure out how to blacklist specific email addresses and in some cases even hosts, so that I dont get any more mail from those addresses.

    The mail server is for a whole network so it's not just personal spam I want to stop.

    I would also like to avoid using other software to do this.

    Is there simply a file I can edit or an entry I can add to stop the spam.

    Your thought on this matter would be appreciated...

  11. I know someone that would like to kill bill gates... I'll bet that M$ was behind this whole load of bolloks, thay have their stinky hand in everything that it doesn't belong in... Just like the US Governemt... actually makes you think...

    What if Bill and George are lovers... now wouldn't that lead to an interesting conspiracy... Microsoft and the US Government both do the same thing. One makes sure that the other gets away with everything like Microsoft and Internet Explorer..... and On the other side the Carnivore Program..... Bet you microsoft have something to do with that... built in carnivore software into every M$ users desktop.... think about it, it makes perfect sense...

    Oh yeah... and that person that would like to kill Billy and actually Georgie too is no one else but myself.....!!!

  12. Well you can't just do something you always have to edit scripts which generate files... it doesnt have any compilers, half the needed libraries for basic apps arent there...

    If you want a free GOOD high quality server that's lean.... DEBIAN..!!!

    It's beautiful...!! saw quite a couple of debian firewall howtos this morning...!!

  13. ##########################################################################

    # IPCHAINS VERSION

    # This sample configuration is for a single host firewall configuration

    # with no services supported by the firewall machine itself.

    ##########################################################################

    You see, this machine is running other services...

    Let me be more exect... I want the command i should give to block all traffic to 1 ip address, because I am getting a lot of spyware and possible browser hijack attempts from that ip.!!!

  14. Ok yes I know ipchains is quite outdated, but on older servers that do not have ip tables and shorewall, and that do not have any development packages installed, one kinda has to make do with what you have...!!

    I should also mention that this is not for a mandrake machine....

    It's based on redhat, E-Smith to be exact... but in anycase, it will become a debian server soon and well, debian also comes standard with ipchains, I could probably install another firewall on the debian box too, but why bother when ipchains will suffice, and the server acting as a firewall also performs other functions...

    I know that this is probably not the best way to keep my network safe, and I know that there are many exploits and vulnerabilities out there that could probably be used againt ipchains, hence iptables.... but hey. As long as the end point is 99% secure, that should do just fine..!!
