  1. I notice that the Trash can now works in KDE after the last Cooker sync but in Gnome it still isn't fixed.
  2. I've just tried it but it freezes when I test the config. Shutting down X Font Server: [FAILED] Starting X Font Server: [ OK ]
  3. I replaced the xorg.conf again with my own xorg.conf but modified. The same thing happens when I run startx from the ssh connection. Anyway I followed these instructions from theYinYeti I get to the point where I type icewm and this is what I get: [root@Alex root]# export DISPLAY=:1 [root@Alex root]# ssh alex@192.168.1.1 alex@192.168.1.1's password: Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding. 4. That's exactly what I've just done. I ran xorgconfig and generated a new xorg.conf file but now nothing happens when I give the startx cmd. 5. We are getting closer. I've just checked if the X@ link is correct and I found out that it wasn't pointing in the reight place. 6. I knew something was missing, but I don't know what to write in the device section If it were an nvidia card it would have been easier. Should I run xorgconfig or whatever it's called ? I'm not home right now, but when I get there I'll try it.

  9. Well, in that case you need a DVD-W, a DVD burner at your workplace and a DVD-ROM home. Just put the DVD in the ROM after you've burned it and boot it. If I remember well, if you select install DrakX will ask you if you want to upgrade or install. Select upgrade. You can also add the DVD as an rpm repository and update using urpmi. Go to MCC -> Software Management -> Media Manager and add the DVD as a repo.
  10. I run as root too and .Trash-root was located in win_e. I dropped to init 1, deleted all the Trash and .Trash folders but the problem is still here. adamw: I don't have a bugzilla account, nor the experience to create a bug report.

    Gnome Update

I agree with BVC. Cooker is not bad. I sync my packages with the Cooker ones almost every night and my Linux is still running fine. Of course there are a little annoying things but I can live with them .... and hopefully fix them. As you may have noticed I'm forcing things so I can learn Linux faster. The only way to learn is to break your system. Fortunately I was never forced to reinstall Linux although there have been some times when I thought it was inevitable. MDK has proven itself very resistant. Don't forget I always do things as root ! I had to break my system a LOT of times to learn Windows. So far has proven to me that even running it as root, experimenting, you can't break it so easy.
  12. Yup, very weird. There is nothing in there. It's always empty and and the icon is always the empty one. The empty trash entry in it's menu is always unavailable. This means I'll have to disable it from Gconf and reenable it but I doubt it would work since it happens in KDE too... but here goes. edit; Nope, nothing is fixed. The trash can still has some kind of functionality. If I put a file in there it disappears but doesn't get deleted. It's still in ~/.Trash but the Trash can is blind.
  13. I dunno where to post this .... but here it goes. I've been having this problem for quite some time but I ignored it thinking that an update would solve it. I'm using the latest, bleeding edge, Cooker packages and still the problem is here. Whenever I delete something both in Gnome and KDE it won't show up in Trash. I have to go to ~/.Trash and delete everything in there manually. I'd like to have the Trash can's functionality back because it's useful sometimes.

    Gnome 2.8.2

Yup. What ? Of course there are 2 entries: Applications (the FUBAR menu entry) and Mandrakelinux menu. I want to get rid of the 'Applications entry'.
  15. a13x

    Gnome Update

BTW, it will ruin your menu bringing down it's usefulness. I was forced to degrade to 2.8.2 because of this. That is it's only serious bug as far as I'm concerned.

    Gnome 2.8.2

I installed the Gnome DE from the Cooker repository (corresponding to MDK 10.2) and I know have the old MDK menu but the FUBAR one is still there !! I have 2 entries look: I want to remove the FUBAR one. How do I do that ?
  17. I have 2 MDK PCs in my network and I want to create a common rpm repository for both of them (located on one of the pcs). What software do I need ? I'd also like to be able to choose what packages will be downloaded and syncronized with the official ftp sites.

    MNF2 server

I formated the entire hd and reinstalled the latest version of MNF + webmin. Now it works and I also have web interface but I still have the X problem.
  19. I'll stick with urpmi because it's seems safer to me. I don't want any more rpm conflicts and corrupted databases.

    MNF2 server

I have an old Celeron@433Mhz with 128MB RAM, SiS 6326 with 8MB video memory and 2 NICs which I want to use as a file server for now. I installed the latest MNF version (MNF2 beta). After the installation I was supposed to set up everything from my browser by accessing http://server_ip:8443. I restarted, waited for 5 minutes and than nothing. The web interference didn't work. Then I tried ssh-ing and pinging but without success. I connected the server to my monitor, disabled iptables and shorewall and edited hosts.allow. After this I was able to ping and ssh but still no web interference. I installed xfree86 but it wouldn't work. [root@FileServer user1]# startx execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 13) giving up. xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. [root@FileServer user1]# After doing some googling I decided to install xorg 6.8. I set up the MDK 10.0 main, contrib and plf repos and installed xorg but now I get the same error. I'm kinda stuck right now and don't know what to do next. I'd really like to have a web interference and X up and running (I know it's not very safe but for now I need some GUI tools). I'll fix the firewall later but now this is not the issue. Maybe I should install webmin ?
  21. If I remember well, Yahoo changed their protocol. Because the Linux version of Y! Messenger is quite old I think that's the problem. Try Gaim or Kopete. I recommed Gaim.
  22. I have upgraded to 10.2 Cooker and now it doesn't work again. 23. The subtitle font is way to big. How do I change it ? I'm using the Cooker version of mplayer and I can't figure out how to change the font size in this one. edit; Never mind. I just figured it out. You have to modify the gui.conf file in ~/.mplayer. Silly me.
  24. I did a rpm -rebuilddb, then I completely uninstalled KDE 3.2 using rpmdrake from Gnome. I did another rpm -rebuilddb just to make sure the rpm db is ok. After this I installed KDE 3.3 using Thac's rpms. And that's all.
